The end of the year is a perfect time to look back on what we have accomplished for the past 12 months — and what an exhilarating year it has been for John Clements Consultants! I think this is one of our best years! The phoenix has risen!

The year went by so quickly — and while we faced significant challenges, we also made some progress.

Just some highlights —

Our Executive Search business net income grew three times, increasing placements by 40 percent.

Our Professional Staffers Business reached the P100-million mark with sales growth of 127% attributed to the strengthening of the Japan Desk and our Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) business.

Our Staffbuilders Asia’s business has been challenged by the cessation of ENDO and contractualization but it is on the upswing, and it continues to contribute a significant portion of our revenues and profits.

Meanwhile, our corporate learning team organized various fora on building disruptive businesses with Stanford and IE professors and data analytics and artificial intelligence fora with professors from UC Berkeley and Columbia University. Our executive coaching business grew eight times, and online learning grew five times.

Finally, our international business EDI-Staffbuilders International, grew by 25 percent and found new international markets, namely:

  • The Czech Republic, with the biggest share of Filipinos in the Ethical recruitment business, making EDI the POEA benchmark for all recruitment activities in the Czech Republic
  • Saudi Arabia, where more than a thousand workers were recruited and dispatched for the top 3 mega-companies in that country
  • Germany — per POEA, we have the most number of nurses deployed to Germany. We are also the first private company to open a German school in the Philippines that delivers Level B2 German Language-capable Filipino Nurses to Germany
  • EDI is also strengthening its presence in the Finnish market while opening the Swedish and Polish markets.

It was a tough year, with intensifying competition and technological disruptions, but we managed to thrive!

Key to our ability to thrive in 2018 was the way we embraced new technologies. We committed to this with our new mission — “Build leaders. Transform organizations.” We see our role as one of accelerating the transformation of human resources by harnessing the power of technology.

In 2019, we will continue to invest in technology to improve our recruitment processes and drive efficiencies. We will continue to use social media to attract more candidates and build our brand. We will continue to develop and invest in our people.

Personally, I had a very hectic year. I now sit on six boards, including John Clements — the Management Association of the Philippines; Harvard Alumni Association; Harvard Business School Alumni; Insular Healthcare; and For the Women (FTW). The latter is a non-for-profit organization that upgrades the skills of under-privileged women by providing them with world- class training on data science and digital marketing.

My passion is to help build our country and for 2019 I would like to focus on attracting more foreign direct investments into the Philippines as well as find new markets for Filipinos who want to work overseas.

I would like to thank all of our clients and partners for the opportunity to work with your extraordinary organizations. Most especially, I would like to thank all our John Clements colleagues for their invaluable contributions to our organization.

All the best for the new year, and let us all work together for a better Philippines!

Happy Holidays!
