The Anzcham Monthly Membership Meeting was held at the Tower Club of the Philam Life Tower last October 9, 2018. The guest speakers were Tim Mohin, CEO of the Global Reporting Initiative; Sreenivas Naranayanan, Group Managing Director of ASSIST; Rachel Esther Gumtang-Remalante, OIC-Director of SEC; and Antonieta Ibe, Commissioner of SEC. The topic for this month’s meeting was “Sustainable Practices for Business in the Philippines”.

Nowadays, increasing attention is being given to environmental, economic, social and governance reporting, not only in the Philippines but also in the ASEAN region. It is a recommended, good corporate governance practice in the new code of Corporate Governance for PLCs. Sustainable reporting is an organization’s practice of publicly reporting its significant economic, environmental, and social impact in accordance with globally accepted standards. It enables an organization to measure and monitor its contributions towards achieving universal targets of sustainability.

According to Commissioner Antonieta Ibe, sustainable reporting is needed because it promotes transparency and accountability, empowers stakeholders to make informed decisions, and helps companies manage its economic, environmental and social impact. Sustainability performance is measured in the way the corporation conducts its business. And whenever applicable, the disclosures should be quantifiable and measurable.

A short Q&A was held, followed by the closing remarks by Stephanie Fabian, the Executive Director of ANZCHAM. Overall, it was a good event to gain new insights from and meet new people.
