The 653rd PMAP GMM was held last February 28, 2020 at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati. Attended by close to 150 delegates, the program started exactly on time while lunch was being served. Since the event fell on Ash Wednesday, the menu was basically fish, soup and bread with red velvet cake for dessert.

To kick off the program, after the prayer and national anthem, incumbent PMAP President, Louisa Mila V. Echevarria, FPM, gave welcome remarks and presented a summary of the PMAP events at the beginning of 2020. Following her talk, PMAP Foundation President Ramon B. Segismundo, DPM, took the stage to discuss this year’s plans for the foundation. The induction of new members followed. Almost 20 new members took their oath that day.

Afterwards, three guest speakers gave their speeches, namely:

  1. Belen E. Orosa, AFPM

AVP, HR Division of SM Mart, Inc. (The SM Stores)

Topic: How to Prepare an HR Strategic Plan

2. Benilda B. Galvez, MD, FPCP, FPCCP

Member, DOH Speakers Bureau for Effective Health Communication on the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Health Event

Topic: How to Handle Safety Precautions in the Workplace

3. Arsenio Sabado, FPM

Chief Human Resources Officer of Jollibee Foods Corporation

Topic: Leading Culture Change in a Global Landscape

Here are my key takeaways from the three topics:

  • Strategy is bridging the gap from the means toward the ends.
  • The steps in preparing a strategic plan: Determine the Position, Develop a Strategy, Build the Plan, and Manage Performance.
  • Take care of people as they are the ones that will grow your company. People are the best investment.
  • We don’t need an outbreak to create a culture of reaction. We should cultivate a culture of prevention by practicing basic health hygiene.
  • The use of face masks is recommended only for the following people: those with respiratory symptoms, those caring for patients with respiratory symptoms, and health workers.
  • For the public with no respiratory symptoms, there is no need to wear face masks.
  • Anything and everything that we do in a company is called corporate culture.
  • Korea is known as the Land of the Morning Calm.
  • EAST and WEST are totally different. No judgement should be made.

After the last speaker gave his talk, the session was adjourned with a short pictorial. A mass was held after the event to celebrate Ash Wednesday.
