Speed Networking and Leaving Lasting Impressions

It was truly a night of pure networking and business development as the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (CanCham) and the Nordic Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (NordCham) organized a Speed Networking Night at the Dusit Thani Manila last August 17, 2017.

I’ve attended countless networking events, but this was my first time to attend one of this kind. In speed networking, each person is given two minutes to network with people in a cocktail table or “station”. Participants can either be part of the “outer circle” or the “inner circle”. People within the “inner circle” stay at their stations, while people from the “outer circle” are the ones who move around. Once two minutes is up, a buzzer sounds and people from the “outer circle” move to the next station to meet new people. This process goes on until all stations have been covered.

To spice things up, the organizers raffled off some items. John Clements’ very own Radka Okruhlanska won a ticket to the upcoming Crayfish Party, which will be held at the Sofitel Harbor Garden Tent on September 16, 2017. The grand prize for that night’s raffle draw was a round trip ticket to Europe, sponsored by Thai Airways.

If you are into meeting a lot of people in networking events, speed networking is the way to go. It can be tiring, especially when you need to say your elevator pitch every two minutes; but overall, it can also test your ability of leaving lasting impressions given a short period of time.
