Surprise…You have been elected as M.A.P. Governor!
I was prodded by Ms. Carol Dominguez to attend the General Membership Meeting of the Management Association of the Philippines (M.A.P.) last October 24, 2017. I agreed to attend as a diversion from my usual hectic schedule. I had no expectations but I was psyched up to just enjoy the proceedings. Besides, I wanted to listen to the tributes of Ambassador Delia Albert, Mr. Cesar Virata and Mr. Ramon Del Rosario Jr. for Mr. Washington “Wash” Z. SyCip. As expected, the usual program prevailed: invocation, singing of the national anthem, presentation of new members, presentation of the Management Man of the Year. The award went to business tycoon, Mr. John Gokongwei for his contribution to business. He was an excellent choice. The question which loomed at our table though was: how come it took M.A.P. a long time to recognize him? Anyway, we had no answer to this question.
The next announcement caught us all by surprise. It was no secret that M.A.P. members were voting for their next 4 Governors. We did not know though that the winners will be announced that day. We were just chatting and we were enjoying the company of each other. To my left was Jane Golbourne whom I met 4 years back and to my right was Raquel Cagurangan, whom I had the pleasure of meeting many years back as well. We heard faintly the announcement that the board had already confirmed the new governors . They were:
- Sec. JOSE RENE GREGORY “Rene” D. ALMENDRAS — President and CEO, AC Infrastructure Holdings Corporation
- Ms. MARIA CAROLINA “Carol” V. DOMINGUEZ — President and CEO, John Clements Consultants, Inc.
- Ms. RIZALINA “Riza” G. MANTARING — President and CEO, Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc.
- Mr. CESAR G. ROMERO — Country Chair, Shell Companies in the Philippines
Consequently, Ms. Carol Dominguez was swarmed with a number of well wishers, congratulating her for winning. It became a happy occasion for Carol, as I call her, who could not believe that she won.
Congratulations Carol for a well deserved position in M.A.P.!
