Millennials undoubtedly make up the largest segment in the workforce. Hence, during the Joint MAP-PMAP General Membership last Sept 24, 2019 at the Makati Shangri-La — a timely forum on Understanding the Millennial Workforce — the audience witnessed a powerhouse cast of millennial leaders across industries such as retail, banking, conglomerate and fintech.

Ronald Batisan, AVP of UnionBank, described what he called “fillennial” (Filipino + Millennial) as optimistic, career-driven, socially active, civic-oriented, and having a short attention span.

Working effectively and efficiently with different generations allowed Dae Lee, managing partner of The Fourth Wall, to recognize the “gaps” and improve proper communication, with the attempt from these generations to compromise and work for a shared vision.

Stephanie Sy, founder and CEO of Thinking Machine, detailed a typical work schedule for a tech company like hers. With a small headcount of 50, the challenge in managing a young company is to maintain an output-driven mindset above all else. So far, the flexible work schedule — where 20% of time is spent learning — aligns productively well for her group.

Tata Vistal of Ayala Corporation took a more personal turn on how millennial professionals redefine themselves from how they are actually perceived. To illustrate:

Impatient vs. Harnessing technology

Title hungry vs. Drive to succeed

Aggressive vs. Risk takers

Disloyal vs. Finding their purpose

No respect for authority vs. Value-based leadership
