From the very first recorded legal history on November 30th, 1858, to the final verdict given by the supreme court of India, on November 9th, 2019, it took 161 years for the Hindus of Ayodhya to finally reclaim lord Ram’s birthplace, making it one of the longest-running cases in India’s legal history.

Over the decades, it has wound its way up through the legal hierarchy, from Faizabad Civil Court to Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court to the Supreme Court itself, since the time when India was just another British Colony, to 72 years after India became an Independent Republic the dispute took many turns.

Finally, on 9th November, 2019, the SC ruled unanimously that a Ram temple should be constructed over the 2.77-acre disputed site and the Central Government should allot a 5-acre land elsewhere for a Mosque.

THE IMPORTANCE OF RAM TEMPLE

The Hindus who were fighting for the construction of Ram Mandir were rejoiced after the verdict, as the Babri Masjid was a symbol of oppression, invasion and eradication of the cultural identity of India & Hindu faith by the Mughals. The people were connected spiritually and emotionally to the temple as it holds a very special place in Hinduism where Gods like Shiva-Shakti, Shree Ram & Shree Krishna are prominent.

People dedicate their entire life, living on the principles of Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita, Puranas and Vedas; they practice poojas and rituals; go on bare-foot tirthas (travel to pilgrimage sites), their faith was challenged when such a significant temple was demolished. While the legal fight began in 1885, the trauma of bloodshed, oppression and not being able to practice one’s faith was since 1528.

Many people have shed their blood, sweat; some even sacrificed eating grains for this auspicious verdict, which resulted in the construction of the temple giving the generations to come, the Ayodhya of Shree Ram to practice their faith.

BHOOMIPOOJAN AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE TEMPLE

In Hinduism, Land (Bhoomi) is considered as the mother/foster of the world, that’s why worshiping the land before any kind of construction is practiced to receive the grace of mother earth, and with her grace all the defects of the land and mistakes of the people are forgiven.

It’s also homage to the people who spent their lives fighting for their faith, while the final victory was achieved in SC, a lot of people contributed in every possible way for this verdict.

The SC’s verdict stated that the construction of the temple will be performed by the Temple’s trust and not by the government, many people contributed for the construction, while it might need more financial help, it’ll surely be a symbol unity and people’s faith.

THE AFTERMATH

While it’s rare for both the parties to feel contented, both the parties respected SC’s verdict, yet a lot of people fail to understand that the SC would never advocate for the likes of those who want to “reclaim” temples by taking down Mosques all over India. But the site stood empty and the only question which remained was what should be rebuilt.

We have both archaeological records as well as textual, including Tulsidasa recording in TULSI DOHA SHATAK the brutal demolition of the temple and the subsequent erection of the Mosque.

Even the Archaeological survey of India excavated the site in 2003 and gave a report which clearly stated that Babri Masjid was constructed by originally destroying a Hindu Temple.

And I’m sure that one day will come when there will be a Mosque in that 5-acre land which will be a symbol of faith, acceptance and love for god… unlike the tainted Babri Masjid.

My apologies if I’ve hurt the sentiments of any person; creed; religion.

Remember that in the end love, acceptance and truth prevails all.

JAI SHREE RAM! जय श्री राम!
