The story of Baba Harbhajan Singh. Born on 30th August 1946, and was enlisted to serve the nation in Punjab Regiment on 9th February 1966. In 1968, he was posted on the Indo-China border in Sikkim. On 4th October, while riding a horse, he was taking a pack of mules carrying supplies. And was heading back to the remote outpost. But unfortunately, he faced a brutal accident and drowned in a glacier in Nathu La pass between Tibet and Sikkim. When the search party failed to find his body, his head officials declared him a deserter. Then, he appeared in his fellow soldier’s dream and told him the directions to find his dead body. The next day, they found it exactly where he told them they would. But this ending leads to a new beginning.

The Epic Tale of the Brave Soldier

He came to another fellow army man’s dream and told him that he’ll continue his service even after his death.

He used to warn the Indian Army about the impending danger and strategies of China’s PLA(People’s Liberation Army), in advance. If any army-men on duty fell asleep, they feel as if been slapped by someone. Also, traces of mud in his boots and wrinkled uniform and cleaned itself, shows that he’s still protecting the border. This is not a fairy-tale, but a belief of the Indian Army, the people of his village, as well as the Chinese Army, that Baba Harbhajan Singh protected the border until he got retired. During flag meetings between the two nations in Nathu La, the Chinese set a chair aside to honor him. On Republic Day, 26th January 1969 he was awarded a Braveheart award. Like everyone, he gets his salary, and some money is sent to his mother. And two months leave every year. A seat is left empty in a train for the journey to his hometown, where three army men accompany Baba to his home.

Baba’s Legacy

To fulfill his wish, which he mentioned in his colleague’s dream was to build a tomb for him. Now is Shaheed Harbhajan’s shrine where devotees and soldiers come to pay respect and seek Baba’s blessings. It is also believed that water kept in Baba’s shrine is capable of curing the ailing person. So, devotees leave water-bottles in the name of the needed and cure the illness.
