THE ULTIMATE DC SHOWDOWN
The last few days have been huge for a DC fan after the DC Fandome event, held on 22nd August. The event covered almost all the future projects of Detective Comics, which are in production. Among all these projects, Wonder Woman 1984, Black Adam, The Batman and The Snydercut.
WHAT IS DC FANDOME?
DC Fandome is an entertainment and comic book convention held virtually online as a response to San Diego Comic-Con’s cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which created hype among DC fans who’ve waited quite long for new announcements.
WONDER WOMAN 1984
As the title says itself, the movie is set in year 1984, 74 years after the death of Steve Trevor, from what we’ve got from the trailers it looks like Maxwell lord and Barbara Minerva (a.k.a CHEETAH) are the antagonists of the movie who might have a bigger role in sequels too.
The story will be based around the Philosopher’s stone acquired by Maxwell Lord, he ends up fulfilling the wishes of everyone around the world which eventually makes him stronger in return, it also explains the appearance of Steve Trevor(the stone fulfilled Diana’s wish), after his death in the prequel and the transformation of Barbara into Cheetah.
The movie will also show us more about Themyscira and Thanagar, the planet of Hawkgirl as Wonder Woman uses a comic inspired Thanagarian golden eagle armor in the final battle.
BLACK ADAM
After the success of Shazam and several Black Adam Easter eggs, DC is finally bringing him on the big screen with Dwayne Johnson helming the role.
Black Adam is a very complex character in the DC mythos; he is often portrayed as an Anti-hero who had twisted ways, while he started off as an evil character who only aimed to revenge the atrocities he has witnessed all his life by releasing the seven deadly sins on the higher class of the Magical city of “Kahndaq”. After a fierce battle against the wizards of the Rock of Eternity, Black Adam was banished from earth for 5000 years and now he’ll return to rule Kahndaq.
There have been rumors that the movie will also have Hawkman( Carter Hall of Thanagar) to fight against Black Adam After his return. Black Adam will return again in future installments to face Shazam and The Man of Steel.
THE BATMAN
THE BATMAN is among the most hyped movies of 2021, with Robert Pattinson helming the cowl, directed by Matt Reeves; it’s a noir driven detective story inspired by the famous comics Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: Year Two with a little hint of Batman: Hush which also gives the dark vibes important for the character development of Batman.
It’s a story about Batman in his early years of crime fighting where he’s just a new lunatic for Gotham City, the people don’t trust him neither he’s a symbol of hope, yet he’s working with Detective Gordon and the corrupt G.C.P.D to gain their trust and he’s halfway there as the police are letting him investigate the crime scene.
It is rumored that there are many villains in the movie, but the main arc will focus on the Riddler, who will give riddles and clues to the Batman throughout the film, causing him confront other mobs of Gotham for clues, hence setting up plots for future installments.
There were rumors that the movie will be set in early 90’s, but the teaser destroyed that rumor when a goon started recording Batman’s confrontation with an Iphone. There will be a lot of things going throughout the movie but it’ll focus mainly on Bruce Wayne’s ‘soul’, ‘trauma’, ‘past’ and ‘detective skills’, which were rare in previous Batman movies, hence giving the character more depth.
While there were many Easter eggs and cinematic shots in the teaser giving away the vibe and setting of the movie, a lot of things are still uncertain regarding the plot, all we can do is speculate, wait for next trailers and have faith in Pattinson and Reeves.
THE JUSTICE LEAGUE SNYDERCUT
After 3 years of constant online battle & many controversies among the DC executives and the DC fans, the Snydercut is getting released in 2021.
After removing Director Zack Snyder and replacing him with Joss Whedon, the whole movie was released with a different cinematography, odd VFX, sexual jokes and weak plot, which lead to a twitter movement #releasethesnydercut, and after gaining many followers the movement became successful when director Zack Snyder started sharing stills from his original project.
Now after the release of the first teaser, we can say that the main plot of the movie is still the same but told in a different way, with a lot of Easter eggs, references a different subplot.
The story arc of Cyborg, which was almost nonexistent in the theatrical cut, was supposed to be the ‘heart’ of the movie. We are also getting the original scenes instead of reshoots by Joss Whedon, a better looking Superman without the VFX moustache and other supporting characters which will make more impact to the setting of movie.
We get a new look at Young Darkseid, his priest DeSaad, nightmare timeline, better look at the Flash and Cyborg, a more terryfing Steppenwolf, many unreleased scenes and most importantly the league in it’s full glory, which were not in the original movie.
In other words 2021 will be epic for a DC fan.
