Purdue Day of Giving is the largest fundraising event at Purdue University. Calling for alumni, students, and even those not associated with the university itself, Purdue wants all possible to be part of the giant leaps being taken this sesquicentennial year. This annual event allows for the university’s students, faculty, and organizations to have a more affordable, stronger experience.

Throughout the day, there are challenges to promote the competitive spirit, such as the 50th original tweet about Purdue Day of Giving (PDOG). The department or organization that wins each challenge gets a monetary boost toward their respective institution. All of these donations reinforce the opportunities that students and faculty get to have at Purdue, and as a department, Purdue Bands and Orchestras has been a leader in past PDOG challenges.

Purdue Bands and Orchestras is a department that stands alone in Elliott Hall of Music. With the guidance of music directors and staff, students are a source of leadership and the primary beneficiaries. Within the past few years, some donations have gone toward new lockers for instrument storage. And the locker renovations are still occurring! Donations from alumni and others go toward travel needs, as well as instruments, scholarships, and uniforms. Purdue Day of Giving is what makes Purdue Bands and Orchestras possible.

As a member of the “All-American” Marching Band, I have been able to be a recipient of these gifts. Donations have gone directly toward the Golden Silks Color Guard and have funded travel in years past. The band and orchestras department, and myself included, could not be more thankful for all of the contributions. These wonderful opportunities would not be possible without our generous donors. Consider donating, and remember to Boiler Up, Hammer Down, Hail Purdue, share the video, and check out the challenges below!
