Ian: So Lucey? What’s your latest “great idea”

Ian: We are raising money to help Peter Ryan a Paralympian cyclist that is blind go to the Rio Paralympics

Blind Cycling! WTF?

I know. Fairly mad. They ride tandem with a pilot on the front. There is a video down at the bottom.

Is there not a grant for this? Surely he is covered?

Well no. The Paralympian gets some supports but the pilot doesn’t. Damien the pilot won gold the last time. He heads down to Tipperary from Dublin 3–4 times a week to train. Add in Rio and the support kit, its bloody expensive….in short they need the cash

Tell me about Peter.

Peter was full sighted at 19 years old. He played for the Tipp Minor Hurlers when his sight started to go. Over 8 months he slowly went blind. He lost his job, couldn’t play sport and started to drink heavily. Read at the bottom about how he turned it around.

I wish. It’s about 700k-800k in 6 days with a few Alps thrown in.

Is this going to be like the last time when your bike supposedly failed at the bottom of Alpe d’Huez?

It was a mechanical failure and I’d gone 174k at that stage.

It’s all relaxed muscle.
