Vegans and vegetarians, look away now — we’re talking big hunks of perfectly seasoned meet, fresh off the coals, tender, flavourful and satisfying. Europe may not be known for it’s barbecue prowess, but this guide proves that out there are some amazing restaurants out there just waiting for you to tuck in and chow down. Just in time for that hot summer weather, too!

Our favourite five from the lip-smacking list:

1. Duke’s Brew & Que, London

We would que for Duke’s brew any day of the week. Perfectly seasoned and juicy hunks of meat, and not a dry bone in the house. This Dalston BBQ house has gained a huge following in recent years, for offering generous portions of deep South barbecue in a brick-walled pub conversion with extensive craft beers on tap.

2. Warpigs Brewpub, Copenhagen

Strictly more of a brew pub than an BBQ joint, but not only do amazing craft beers and BBQ go hand in hand — but you take one look at that tray and tell us that isn’t some fine American BBQ food right there. Whether you’re a beer lover or a beer skeptic, as long as you’re a BBQ fan then this microbrewer never fails to make for an excellent evening.

3. The Tavern, Prague

Not only did the team behind The Tavern do a pilgrimage along the Southern Food Alliance BBQ Trail where they set out to learn and improve upon all of the south’s amazing BBQ techniques, but they then went on to WIN at the Jack Daniels Invitational BBQ Championships in America. If some guys from Prague can beat a whole host of home grown BBQ fans at their own game, you know it’s going to be worth the trip.

4. PORK, Barcelona

PORK (or PORK boig per tu!) has on their website the tagline ‘A real madness devoted solely to the Pork!’ Whether this stems from an awkward translation or from an actual feverish dedication to pork, either way this little BBQ joint is turning out some of the best American style BBQ in the whole of Spain.

5. Chicago Williams BBQ

An eccentric owner, huge portions of meat, amazing chowders, homemade slaws and cocktails served from a slushy machine. It’s a real taste of America right in the heart of Berlin. Crowd favourites are the pulled pork and the ribs, but in our opinion you can’t go wrong with the Philly cheese steak. If you’re in the city and craving real BBQ, then this really is the place.
