Are you nearby one of these? Why not drop in and find out the truth for yourself.

The Mermaid Inn

This 15th-century Tudor-style inn with B&B lodging offers old-world inspired rooms (some with hand-carved 4-poster beds) with period features. There’s a historic bar with a large log fire, and an acclaimed restaurant offering Anglo-French dishes.

“Judith Blincow, who owns the inn, has stated ‘Although I’ve not personally seen ghosts, I certainly have met some very convinced and frightened guests.’ Spooky.”

Red Lion

Quaint pub with outdoor seats, built above an ancient well, serving hearty British comfort food.

“Very occasionally a phantom carriage, drawn by ghostly horses, has been seen clattering across the inn’s courtyard by spooked patrons.”

The Ostrich

A modern makeover for a 12th-century hostelry with a vaulted timbered roof and ancient fireplaces.

“Great for ghost hunters, with over 60 murders on the premises! Mostly in the 13th century by landlord Mr Jarman, who had a profitable sideline murdering guests.”

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Iconic resort with exciting rides, rollercoasters, younger kids’ attractions, shows and dining.

“There’s a phantom which apparently haunts the Ghost Train. It’s been named Cloggy because it’s said to be the spirit of a train operator who used to wear clogs.”

Souter Lighthouse

Boldly hooped in red and white, come and visit the iconic clifftop beacon and climb the 76 steps to the top of the tower for spectacular views.

“One of the main ghost stories here is of a young girl. People have reported her crying, others have heard their names called by a young female voice.”

Culzean Castle

Castle dating from 1569 with lavish, round drawing room and oval staircase, plus deer park.

“The sound of a crackling fire, screams from the vaults and a lady in a ballgown are all parts of the ghostly delights that are reported here.”

Michelham Priory

Explore Michelham’s fascinating 800 year history, from its foundation by Augustinian canons, through the destruction caused by the dissolution of the monasteries in Tudor times and into its later life as a country house. This picturesque island offers a great day out for the family.

“Hauntings include a hooded monk in the undercroft, a young boy in the kitchens, a maid in the hall, and a lady dressed in Tudor clothing walking the corridors.”

Derby Gaol

Prison with original features, run by historian/paranormal investigator, with limited opening times.

“With it’s history of imprisonment, death, and misery, Derby Gaol is a strong contender for the title of ‘Most haunted Place in Derby’.”

Leap Castle

Known as Ireland’s most haunted castle, with a massive imposing tower and walls nine feet thick. Visits are by appointment only.

“One of the more terrifying ghostly beings which apparently reside in the castle has just been called “It”; a small creature with a ‘decaying face’.”

Chillingham Castle

A medieval fortress that from the late 1200s Chillingham was the seat of the Grey family. Now open to the public and available for weddings, private functions, tours and self catering apartments.

“In the Chapel by the Great Hall, the ghostly voices of two men are often heard. It’s hard to follow their words, and they stop talking if you attempt to listen.”

Aldwych Underground Station (Disused)

The last train carrying the general public left Aldwych on the evening of the 30th September 1994, just less than 87 years after being first opened to the public. Today, the station is being maintained by London Underground mainly as a museum piece, film set and the ticket hall is frequently rented out for art exhibitions, book launches and other private parties.

“The resident ghost here is believed to be an actress who has not enjoyed her last curtain call (Aldwych used to be on the site of the old Royal Strand Theatre).”

Levens Hall

A stunning Elizabethan historic house in the Lake District, known for it’s immaculate topiary gardens and paranormal activity.

“The ghost of a little black dog has been seen chasing visitors up the main staircase as well as with the present owner’s mother and wife outside the house.”

Theatre Royal, Drury Lane

Lavish Georgian theatre that favours crowd-pulling mainstream musicals.

“The theatre’s most famous ghost is that of the so-called “Man in Grey”; a young man in a powdered wig, ruffed shirt, grey riding cloak and three-cornered hat.”

Charleville Castle

Early 19th-century fortress with turrets, towers and hand-carved stairways, plus its own ghosts.

“Reputed to be haunted by a little girl named Harriet, youngest daughter of the third Earl of Charleville, who died tragically on the main staircase in 1861.”

Athelhampton House

A 15th century Country Manor House and Gardens in Dorchester, Dorset. Perfect for days out, special occasions or as a wedding venue.

“Considered to be one of the most haunted houses in England. Its most interesting ghost is a ‘pet ape’ which apparently scratches walls in an attempt to escape.”
