TLPNews | Stepping inside the New Home of Sotero H. Laurel Academic Resource Center

Lyceum of the Philippines University — Manila’s newest facility has officially opened its doors to all Lyceans, both students and employees. On September 8, 2022, the new Academic Resource Center welcomed the university executives, deans, teaching and non-teaching personnel, athletes, and student-leaders within its bright, modern space.
The inauguration commenced with a Holy Mass for The Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a Thanksgiving Celebration held at the SHL-ARC Main Lobby. It was officiated by Rev. Fr. Isidro T. Marinay, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Manila, and Fr. Rolando Perfecto Jr., FDCC — University Chaplain.
Shortly after the mass, the blessing ceremony of the new structure began. It started in front of the building’s facade before proceeding into every area. For each floor, there were assigned departments and administrators. The priests were joined by the deans and directors of LPU — Manila in the lobby. There was a quick photo opportunity before continuing to the roof deck, where LPU Women’s Volleyball Team was present. From this point, Rev. Fr. Marinay and Fr. Perfecto Jr. went down each floor to bless every room.
On the fourth floor, learning department heads led the way. This is where the Main Library, as well as computer areas and conference rooms, are situated. A spacious area with a series of steps connects the fourth and third floors, which also provided a great photo opportunity for everyone present. Subsequently, ARC staff escorted the guests through the third level, which is a continuation of the Main Library.
Lastly, the Center for Technology-Enabled Education (CEL), Student Affairs Office, and LPU — Manila Central Student Government (LYCESGO) joined the group on the second floor to bless the classrooms. After this, the attendees returned to the first level, where they stayed at the lobby to have time for socialization and light meals.
LPU students, staff, and faculty may now visit Sotero H. Laurel Academic Resource Center. The new library is open from Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Saturday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Additionally, the center still requires Lyceans to schedule an appointment two days before visiting for proper crowd control.
