Philadelphia 76er franchise player Joel Embiid has chosen to play for Team USA during the 2024 Olympics. After France and his native Cameroon were vying for his services but he cites wanting to play for a Gold medal for America being due to his son being born as an American citizen.

On the court it will be amazing to possibly see LeBron, Steph Curry, KD and Embiid on the same team. It will be a nightmare for opposing countries to defend against and Embiid will help sure up the issues of rebounding and defense. After another disappointing Team USA showing this summer the superstars are committed to going for the Gold.

I have to imagine how much more Embiid playing for his home country would’ve meant for Africa, and specifically Cameroon. Embiid didn’t come to the States until he was in highschool after getting discovered at a Basketball Without Borders event led by former NBA player Luc Mbah a Mute. Having a player from your country win NBA MVP and then join the national team to compete for an Olympic medal would be a dream for many to see but it will sadly remain that, a dream.
