Hailing from one of the most prevalent hoop states in the country (Jersey), Notre Dame Freshman Hannah Hidalgo quickly made a name for herself on the national scene. The former 5-star recruit and McDonalds All-American took the reigns at Notre Dame while star guard Olivia Miles missed the entire 2023–24 season due to injury. Hidalgo was expected to step in but she has exceeded every expectation in year one.

The South Jersey native is only 5’6” but she plays an intense in your face brand of basketball. Opponents quickly became familiar with her knack for pressing full court and being a complete ball hawk. Typically freshmen come along quicker on the offensive end but Hannah has been an impact player on both ends from the moment she stepped on the court. Hidalgo is averaging an amazing 4.9 steals per game to go along with 23.8 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 5.4 APG. Leading the country in steals while breaking multiple program records along the way is no small feat but Hannah makes it all look regular.

As we enter into award season Hidalgo has already secured ACC Freshman of the Year, All-ACC, ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Next we can expect All-American honors as the Notre Dame Irish look to make a run in the tournament. This is one of the greatest freshman seasons we have ever seen and it’s just a glimpse of how good Hannah can be as an all-around player that can score, play make and defend with the best of them. With Olivia Miles and most of the team back next season Notre Dame will be looking to make a run at the title while Hannah continues rewriting the record books.
