Long time NBA executive and Laker great Jerry West has passed away. West is best known to the younger generation as the front office executive for the Lakers, Grizzlies, Warriors and lastly the Los Angeles Clippers. But long before he donned a suit Jerry West was one of the best basketball players to ever grace the planet. The three time All-American at West Virginia University averaged a ridiculous 24.4 PPG, 13.3 RPG and 2.8 APG. The thing to note with those averages is there was no three point line at that time and that type of rebound average for a guard is pretty much unheard of.

After his time at WVU West was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers where he had a prolific 14 year career. A 14 time All-Star that impacted the game so much that he had the honor of becoming the logo of the league he helped make a name for. The Laker great won the elusive NBA championship in 1972, ending his career with 9 NBA Finals appearances. He battled the Bill Russell and Bob Cousy led Celtics on his way to career averages of 27 PPG, 5.8 RPG and 6.7 APG. West fell short in his quest for a championship multiple times as a player but he righted the ship as an executive winning 9 total championships (counting the ring as a player).
