Culture Conversations: ‘BMF’ Russell Hornsby
Editor Bianca Gregg sat down with “BMF” star Russell Hornsby to talk about his character Charles Flenory, the social media hate train and Black Fatherhood in the 80s.
Charles Flenory may not be everyone’s favorite “BMF” character, but there is no denying what Russell Hornsby delivers in his portrayal of the Flenory family patriarch. Detroit in the 80s was no easy time for most Black families, and at the heart of the “BMF” series are the layers that tie back to racial and wealth inequalities for Black Americans.
In the sit down with Hornsby, he touches on the comparisons of fatherhood and marriage from 2023 to the 1980s, and we discuss the social media disdain of Charles and his recent affair with Mable Jones.
Hornsby has been in the acting game for years with roles in “Lincoln Heights,” “Fences” and “The Hate U Give.” His sharp skill and versatility is what makes the character of Charles such an interesting one and probably the most talked about across the entire series.
