Over the past few years, I’ve believed that the Detroit Pistons are a few years away from becoming playoff contenders in the NBA. The front office has done an excellent job of drafting great prospects who have the potential to become perennial All-Stars. Through the first week of the regular season, one of the Pistons’ huge X-Factors has been Jalen Duren. In his second season, Duren continues to improve as an elite talent on both ends of the floor.

The Pistons have a tremendous amount of elite big men with versatility. Alongside Duren, Detroit has Isaiah Stewart, James Wiseman, and Marvin Bagley III. Each big man brings their unique style as far as what makes them a great talent. However, Duren has been the center who has stood out amongst the other three guys.

During his time at Memphis, many referred to Duren as a traditional center. The reason was due to his lack of floor spacing. In today’s NBA, it’s essential to play a five-out offense that includes floor spacing. In college, Duren was a great lob threat who could play the pick-and-roll and finish strong at the basket…
