I want to start off my recap with a loving message to all my beautiful Black people:

I know this week has been full of pain, outrage, confusion and sadness but it is creating an awakening for our culture. I stand with all of the protesters across the country and worldwide. Thank you for your POWER! I hope tonight we can all feel together.

Let’s get into it.

Last week we saw Molly on her baecation with Andrew. We open up with Lawrence sitting at a bar clearly waiting on Issa. Lawrence almost dies however on a slight choke incident. Issa walks in and of course she falls on her way to Lawrence.

I laugh whenever people fall so yea, cracking up.

Issa gives herself a moment to collect herself. She looks beautiful and her chemistry with Lawrence is always so natural. Lawrence tells Issa he has been interviewing for a new job in San Francisco which is why he missed the Block Party. Issa is happy for him but of course she mentions his break-up with Condola. He tells Issa he doesn’t want to talk about the situation. Lawrence mentions he saw Molly at the airport and Issa admits the two are no longer friends. When Lawrence asks what happened, Issa says she doesn’t want to talk about the situation.

Deflection guys — but hey, this is not about Molly or Condola right?

After the crowd at the bar starts to turn up to Lizzo and considering Issa is still embarrassed from her fall, they decide to head to a Latin restaurant. Lawrence calls the pair an upscale Lyft and Issa prays the driver is not too chatty. Of course they get a chatty driver.

The driver is an older Black woman and she is clearly playing match maker to Issa and Lawrence. Lawrence tells the driver he had already gotten a ring for Issa and when they get to a red light, the driver turns and says, “Do it now nigga before the light changes.”

Chile I was inconsolable!

Hilarious!

Issa is pressing Lawrence about the big “thing” once they get to the restaurant but Lawrence doesn’t express it.

Once the pair are seated, Issa orders half of the menu for them, Lawrence is impressed but all I’m thinking is what that tab going to look like. Lawrence finally tells Issa that he has been thinking about the “what if’s” between the both of them. He wonders what would have happened had they stayed together. He felt he may have gave up too easy on the relationship. Issa tells him she wishes he had not gave up on them.

Lawrence asks Issa why Daniel and she tells him he gave her attention when she was seeking it from Lawrence. Issa admitted to avoiding going home because of how things were between the both of them. She admits she always wanted Lawrence and not Daniel. Lawrence tells Issa he always wanted her but he felt terrible about not having a job and it directly took a toll on the relationship. Lawrence admits it was easier to blame Issa for the relationship ending instead of looking at his own short-comings. Lawrence also admits he did buy Issa a ring, whew!

Issa goes to the bathroom and Lawrence receives a message from Condola about meeting up that night instead of Tuesday, he tells her he’ll see what he can do.

The pair leave the restaurant and run into TSA Bae. He reveals he and Issa have eaten at the Latin restaurant previously. When Lawrence asks how he knew Issa, he says he used to hit it.

Talk about a gag.

Lawrence pokes fun at Issa.

Issa asks Lawrence if he wants to go to the Art Walk with her, he acts like he has something else to do but of course he goes with Issa.

Lawrence and Issa literally have the same humor and I love seeing it.

The pair look at a picture Issa really likes and they begin to discuss happiness.

Issa tells Lawrence she is realizing what makes her happy, is creating happiness for herself. She tells him that she wants to continue to curate Black events. That is very telling coming from Issa. We have witnessed so much growth from her character. Lawrence tells Issa he thought happiness was centered in him doing his own thing career wise but he has realized he enjoys helping other people develop their ideas.

More growth on Lawrence’s end.

Condola calls Lawrence and he is truthful with Issa. He tells Issa he isn’t sure where there relationship is going and proceeds to enjoy the rest of Art Walk with Issa. The pair find out they are practically neighbors while Issa calls the Lyft to get them home. When the Lyft pulls up, Issa says the place looks great from the outside.

Lawrence decides to invite her in to see his grown man spot. Issa is impressed by the cleanliness. She notices he kept the sofa they had previously purchased when the two were together.

She heads to the bathroom and Lawrence steps outside to call Condola. He tells her he is wrapping up and he will try to make it to her. Issa overhears his call but tells Lawrence it’s okay. On her way out the door she turns and tells Lawrence she doesn’t want to leave yet because she does not want the night to end. Lawrence admits their date made him happy. They both admit that they are both happy spending time with one another. The pair engage in a passionate session.

We love to see it!

The next morning Issa and Lawrence wake up smiling at one another. Issa mentions San Francisco to Lawrence and he just replies, “maybe.” Issa gets up and decides she will walk home. Clearly both of them have no regrets about the night spent together.

Only time will tell what this means for Lawrence and Issa.

Takeaways:

I am rooting for these two.

They have both grown as individuals, however I respect if they just decide to remain friends.

Did anyone else scream when the bartender told Issa the manager let her have her drink for free because she busted her ass?

Natasha Rothwell did what she had to do with this episode. We needed this.

Next week we see the olive branch get extended to Molly by way of Issa. Are we getting back together ladies?
