Tonight’s episode continues to intensify as more storylines develop and the characters we hate, are rooting for, and are sometime-y about; push forward. Here’s what happened this week:

Zeke and Cari continue to get close until she asks what happened to him. Zeke tells her he was jumped by the GTG. Later that day, Cari and Jabari have a meeting with Detective Santana about the drowning at Stansfield during Homecoming weekend.

We also find out Cari is an ex-prosecutor. Here we go!

Detective Santana says there’s reason to believe it wasn’t accidental and that a student may have a connection to the victim. Cari reealizes the victim is a member of GTG and in an attempt to protect Zeke, she tries to convince Zeke to tell the police what happened to him after the homecoming game.

When Zeke brings his doubts to Monet, she pays Cari a visit. She tells Cari she knows they’re sleeping together and unless she wants the school to find out, she needs to leave Zeke alone.

Yes Monet!

Cane has taken all of Monet’s corner boys. When Lil’Guap returns with product, Cane recognizes it’s Monet’s. He realizes Rico will be taking Monet out of the game and he attempts to get to his mother to warn her.

Tariq is at the bar letting Monet know he had to use her money to help his mother. Monet points her gun at him as he essentially confesses his wrongs, something that took his father five seasons to do. He also says he’s aware of the consequences and alludes to the fact he killed his father.

Before Monet could get an answer about Ghost, Rico pulls up and sprays the building with bullets. Dru is shot and Diana is saved by Tariq. Cane arrives to see his brother shot and Monet points her gun at Cane blaming him for what happened. They rush Dru to the hospital, he will be fine but the relationship between Monet and her eldest son is destroyed.

Cane calls Officer Ramirez for help. When Cane pleads his case to Ramirez he is shut down and told that Monet will still need him. In a rage, Cane kills Ramirez.

Davis lies about an expert witness in Tasha’s case. The witness turns out to be Epiphany and she is being called to the stand by Saxe. The head of the DNC, Steven, stopped trusting Saxe some time ago and has Saxe followed to a meet up with Davis and Epiphany. Once Steven gets the proof of the meet up, he threatens Saxe and tells him if he does not put both Tasha and Davis away he will ultimately railroad Saxe.

Paula pays a visit to Tasha because she wants to know who the expert witness is. She and Paula figure out it’s Epiphany — to be called for Saxe. Tasha tells Paula to deliver a coded message to Tariq, asking for Tariq to get rid of Epiphany. He decides to pay off Epiphany instead, using the money that was supposed to be Monet’s. Epiphany reveals that Davis and Saxe are indeed working together.

Now Tariq knows how to move.

Epiphany is a no show to the court hearing and Saxe assumes it was a set up by Davis. He shows Davis the photos of himself with Epiphany and warns he will end his and Paula’s careers. Davis makes an attempt to now be honest with Paula about working with Saxe, she refuses to help Davis and ends their relationship. When Saxe returns to the courtroom he decides to call Tariq to the stand.

Paula meets up with Tariq to subpoena him for court. She shows Tariq the footage of him admitting to killing his father at Ghost’s grave. She also let’s him know Davis tried to double cross him. When Tariq asks why she’s telling him all this, Paula admits she wants Davis to lose.

Tariq hires Tameka to represent him in the case — keeping her on a $1 retainer. Tameka tells Tariq he must be honest with her and he admits he killed Ghost.

Whew!

Takeaways:

When I say mess!

Cane killing Ramirez will likely have a lot of blow back. I do feel for Cane after tonight’s episode, he is truly only what his parents wanted him to be.

Tameka is about to nail Saxe. Hopefully Tariq will piece together how the video was recorded and go from there.

I am proud of our nephew Tariq! He is ready to face his consequences. He refused to accept the title of “Monster” and decides he wants to handle things differently from the monsters who raised him.

Tariq we want you to win.
