‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2 Episode 6 ‘What’s Free’
Culture Editor Bianca Gregg brings you ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ recaps each Sunday as the episodes air. Focusing on Tariq St. Patrick who is now in college, the show features familiar faces, and new formidable characters.
Monet is in the middle of a coming home celebration for Lorenzo appearing less than excited for her husband to be back.
Lorenzo is busy boasting about his daughter and how she single-handedly brought him home. Zeke and Everett arrive and Lorenzo is apprehensive about him entering the party. Monet steps in and tells him that “this is Zeke.”
Zeke and Everett are searched before they are finally allowed in. Lorenzo goes around the party letting people know that Dru is next in line to run the family business however Dru does not want the business from himself. Lorenzo flexes his control over the household. First by telling Monet he will smoke in his home if he wants as well as ordering Monet to bring out more food for the guests.
Lorenzo and Monet have a conversation in bed the next morning. Lorenzo wants Diana to be in school and not in the streets, He also wants Dru to take over for him and Cane to continue to be a soldier.
Tariq is sitting in his jail cell, stressed about the situation he has found himself in. Tariq has his bail hearing. Because he is being charged with the murder of a police officer, the judge denies bail to Tariq. Sax feels Tariq is guilty which puts him on the wrong side of what his job is. Davis suggests bringing in someone with a lot of influence to get the judge to grant Tariq bail.
Tariq suggests Rashad Tate of course.
Tariq has visions of Kanan’s spirit.
His spirit aides in helping Tariq figure out how he ended up where he currently is.
Kanan ultimately tells Tariq he can not trust anyone around him, especially the ones he loves the most.
At the bar, Dru reminisces about getting shot. Cane gives his father a chain but Lorenzo wants to talk to the connect. He requests that Cane get in contact with him immediately so himself and Dru can meet him. Cane realizes he is being cut out of running the business.
Diana and Monet have a heated exchange about Diana stealing the money to bring Lorenzo home. Monet tells Diana she killed a man over that money and when Diana responds inappropriately, Monet puts Diana into a choke-hold and tells her to get out of her house.
Lauren confronts Cari on the police arresting Tariq instead of Brayden. She does not want to be called into court to testify against Tariq. Class begins and everyone wants to discuss Tariq being arrested. Cari shows her hand openly to the class and Tate by accusing Tariq of being guilty until proven innocent.
Monet meets with Mecca and expresses her confusion with the current situation. Mecca wants to meet his son and still stands on Monet leaving Lorenzo. He does not want to sneak around.
Lorenzo calls Monet while she is with Mecca. He tells her about Tariq being locked up for Ramirez murder and asks how she and Cane framed him for the murder. He tells Monet this was not a good idea.
Monet goes to see Davis and pays him for information on Tariq’s case. She wants to make sure nothing leads back to her family. The price will be hefty at $500,000. Monet has a talk with Cane and tells him to come up with all of the money for Davis, they will need Course Correct. Cane tells her Brayden will likely be able to carry the program with Tariq.
Rashad goes to see Tariq.
Tariq promises to get a photo album with a lot of incriminating photos in it to Tate if he helps him get bail set. Tate agrees to the deal. At Tariq’s next bail hearing, the judge grants Tariq bail because he wants to give a young Black man a chance. Sax and Davis talk with Tate after the hearing.
Sax tries to find out what Tariq has on him to receive his help but Davis tells him that it is not his business. Tariq has to wear an ankle monitor to make sure he does not commit another crime. Sax once again accuses Tariq of killing Ramirez and Davis tells him to stop. Davis asks Sax to promise that he will never ask for a confession from Tariq. Davis also reminds Sax they get paid to work for Tariq not against him.
Tariq confronts Brayden on what happened with the badge being in his desk. Brayden confesses to helping Cane with getting extra money to help Tariq with Yaz. He admits he helped Cane move a body and he likely planted the badge that night. Brayden admits had Tariq been honest about everything he would have protected him better. Tariq and Brayden both accuse each other of not taking the drug game serious and coming from money. Tariq cuts Brayden out of the business for his disloyalty.
Tariq meets with Lauren. Tariq tells Lauren that Cari was sleeping with Zeke which made her want to protect him Lauren’s apprehension to believe Tariq causes him to break things off with her.
Lauren confronts Cari on the new information she received. Lauren reveals that she knows Cari was sleeping with Zeke and threatens to tell everyone what she has been doing.
Effie pays a visit to Tariq and helps him find some clarity in his situation with Brayden. Tariq opens up to Effie about Jabari’s death and his fear that Yaz hates him. They both sleep with each other. Tariq and Brayden patch things up but not without a favor from Tariq.
Tariq also opens up about everything that has happened with the GTG kid being killed as well as the deaths of Ramirez and Jabari. Tariq wants Brayden to get his father’s photo album for him. Brayden agrees and is ultimately successful.
The Tejeda’s have a family dinner. The children all appear happy with their father being home. In the middle of dinner, Monet says she is going to grab some cheesecake. Instead she meets with Mecca to end things with him. She tells Mecca she must choose her husband and her children. She also calls off Mecca meeting Zeke.
Diana tells Lorenzo she does not feel like Monet is happy that he is home. She also tells Lorenzo about the plan Monet has to get out of the game without him. Lorenzo asks Dru about the plan and Dru tells her it was around Zeke being drafted into the NBA. He tells his father this plan was created when Monet thought he was not going to be getting out of prison.
Lorenzo and Cane meet up. Cane tells Lorenzo that he is the connect. He is upset that Lorenzo picked Dru over him. He also reminds Lorenzo that he is living off his mother. Lorenzo asks Cane if he wants to be his boss or his son.
Monet meets up with Effie who has Tariq on the phone. Tariq questions Monet’s loyalty and she tells Tariq that the situation was all because of Cane but that Tariq is still not allowed to touch her son. Tariq tells Monet anything she needs from him will be by way of Effie moving forward.
Sax overhears Lauren telling the prosecutor that she does not want to testify against Tariq and that Cari set her up.
While having a family game night, Cane receives a message from Mecca. Mecca is now willing to meet Lorenzo. At the same time, Mecca is watching his son Zeke shoot a basketball around at the courts.
Tariq admits to Effie that he knows what he has to do as far as his problems with Cane. He admits he would rather not go that route. Tariq shows Effie the letter he received from Ghost when he was arrested. Effie tells Tariq his story is not done and Tariq thanks her for everything. When she leaves the room, Tariq burns the letter from his father.

Lorenzo came home acting a fool with Monet! He said he will smoke his cigar and get him some chicken while he does it!
Lauren finally started putting things together but not before she lost her man. I mean we knew eventually she would lose him due to the wire.
I am excited to see how this double murder case gets wrapped up considering the two individuals that were involved have reasons not to take the fall. Who is going down for the murders in the end?
