Tariq’s trial is officially underway with both Jenny and Davis making opening statements. Jenny introduces what she calls a recording of Tariq’s motive to killing Jabari and Davis immediately requests that he gets access to the recording. The judge grants the request but makes it clear Tariq is not to hear the recording. Tariq finds out after his hearing that Yaz will be adopted and the records will be sealed. Ghost made it where it would be impossible for Tariq to find his sister once she is adopted.

Diana overhears a conversation between Monet and Dante on the phone. What she hears prompts her to poke around in Monet’s room for more information on what her mother has going on behind the scenes. She finds a bible that has the name of a hospital on the first page. A picture of baby Zeke is tucked into one of the pages and Diana decides to call the hospital for information on Zeke. Diana now knows the truth about her cousin and Monet.

Between everyone’s money issues as well as product shortage, Tariq devises a plan with Monet, Cane, Brayden and Effie to rob Mecca and frame the GTG gang members for it. Cane brings in Dru to handle the money aspect with the promise that he can kill Lil Guap himself. Because Lorenzo and Diana need to be kept out of the plan, Tariq asks Diana to come to court for moral support and Monet goes on a date with Lorenzo to Coney Island.

Of course Davis does not stick to his end of the bargain with the Lauren recording. Davis leaves his computer open for Tariq to listen and Tariq immediately recognizes the voice as Lauren. He storms out of the office but not before Saxe reveals that Cari was the one that coaxed Lauren to wear the wire. Jenny discovers that Davis allowed Tariq to hear the tape and worries Lauren may be in danger. She calls Cari, who is currently in class with Tariq, to warn her of what has happened. Cari rushes to Lauren’s dorm room and Tariq is waiting for her. Tariq convinces Cari that in order to protect Lauren, she must be the one to testify and keep Lauren off the stand. Cari agrees, reluctantly.

Diana makes an attempt to speak to her mother but Monet’s snappy response closes the door for Diana. Diana tells Monet she is heading to Zeke’s game. Monet takes the opportunity to snoop through Diana’s room and discovers condoms in her purse.

Cari arrives to the courthouse and tells Jenny she can testify and confirm that the book Jabari was writing was indeed about Tariq. After Jenny questions Cari, it’s time for cross examination. Davis rips into Cari’s credibility. He forces Cari to admit she slept with himself, Detective Whitman, Jabari and Zeke. The cross examination leaves Cari completely raddled.

Mecca and Chef seem to be having some bumps in the road while at Mecca’s place. The power goes out and it appears Tariq and Cane’s plans are in motion. Mecca receives a phone call from one of his guys, the hanger is being robbed. Mecca tells Cane and Chef they must head over there immediately. Cane pauses and Mecca asks him what’s wrong. Cane admits the power outage reminds him of something he did to GTG some time back. Cane is sure to leave the door to Mecca’s place wide open.

Once Mecca leaves, Brayden goes to distract the front desk doorman. Effie distracts a female security officer. Dru and Lil Guap are heading to Mecca’s penthouse. One their way up Dru is visibly sick of Lil Guap. Guap congratulates him on being the next in command and gives him a grill and a wad of cash. Dru tells Guap he was going to get that cash because it was his anyway. He pulls a gun on Guap but Guap is able to maneuver around being shot. The two get into a fight but Dru eventually overpowers Guap and strangles him to death.

Meanwhile at the hanger, Mecca wants to know how GTG found out about the location. Mecca tells Chef to go back to the penthouse to grab guns. Mecca tells Cane to stay at the hanger while he goes hunting. Cane gets a call from Diana and uses that as his way to leave the hanger and get to Dru. While Dru is in the penthouse stealing the expensive ring Mecca purchased for Monet, Chef walks in. Dru hides in one of the closets that holds several guns and realizes Chef is on his way in. Dru has his gun pointed and ready but Cane comes rushing to distract Chef while Dru makes a clean exit. Tariq gives the ring to Davis and tells him to fence it and take his payment out.

The Tejedas sit down for dinner. Diana asks where everyone was all day and the tea begins to spill. Monet and Cane force the truth about Diana sleeping with Tariq out. Diana reveals to everyone that Cane was the one who swapped the product out to gain control of the connect. Cane tells everyone that Dru failed at getting rid of Everett and Zeke questions why they want to kill his teammate. When Monet tells Zeke to stay at the dinner, Diana suggests that he should stay considering he is the plan for them to get out of the drug game. Diana exposes that Monet is sleeping with a man named Dante who is also Zeke’s father. When Zeke appears confused, Diana shows him his birth certificate, proving that Monet is his mother. Zeke is actually the oldest son at 23 years old and now he is worried his draft stock has dropped. Monet admits Zeke is her son and Lorenzo tells her to leave.

Mecca is at a GTG spot with Cane and Chef. He has essentially killed every member of the gang but finds out his product is not there. Mecca seems very calm about that information. He tells Cane and Chef that now he must take care of the inside man. Chef questions Mecca on the existence of an inside man. He swings a knife toward both Cane and Chef and slashes Chef’s throat. Cane smirks as he feels he has gotten away clean of the situation.

Monet tries to locate Zeke and ends up going to see Cari. Cari tells Monet that she has not spoken to Zeke much as of lately. The two women open up to one another about everything they have lost in the course of the day. Monet admits that so long as Cari is still an option, Zeke will never come back to her. Some time passes and Zeke does show up to Cari’s place. Her front door is open and when Zeke goes in, he discovers Cari hanging.

Takeaways:

Diana lost her virginity and got BOLD! The way she ate her entire family up! Left not a single crumb!

Some may think these deaths were not “big” but I felt they were more calculated. In my opinion, Mecca killed Chef to send a message to Cane. He knows this was Cane’s work and wanted to remind Cane that when the time comes, you will be disposable. R.I.P. Chef

The Cari situation will hopefully play out in the favor of Tariq. It can go two ways and both ways could potentially clear Tariq.

The way Zeke been told he was four years younger than he actually is all his damn life. Now how did ya’ll pull this off in grade school? What a mess!
