Some things you can always expect in a ‘Power’ Finale is plenty of death, lies and twists. The finale for season two is no different. With a total of three major deaths and a sort of happy ending for two characters, this was an excellent wrap up to a very active season.

Mecca’s identity has been revealed finally to Monet and the pair plan out their getaway by way of the murder of Lorenzo. Mecca decides it’s best Cane commit the murder to cover for himself and Monet, and well this could be a test of loyalty also. When Monet approaches Cane with the idea he is extremely adverse at the thought of killing his own father. Once Monet mentions that he should seek advice from Tariq, someone who killed their own father, Cane wants to save face and admits he is onboard with murdering Lorenzo. Later on, Monet meets with Tariq to tell him the truth about her plan. She does not plan to have Lorenzo killed at all but instead make Mecca think Cane is going to do it and in the last hour, she puts a bullet into Mecca. Tariq finally discloses to Monet what he found in Mecca’s bag and since Monet is aware Mecca’s the ‘GOAT of Global Snitching,’ it makes killing him way easier.

Tariq is frantically trying to find out if Lauren made it out of town okay before his court hearing. Effie knowing the truth about Lauren makes an attempt to comfort her boyfriend. When Tariq arrives to the courthouse, Davis and Saxe inform him that Trace Westin will be testifying for the prosecution. Shocked by the news, Tariq attempts to call Brayden but no answer. To the surprise of everyone, Jenny announces that Trace is no longer the witness being put on the stand, instead it is Brayden. Brayden enters the courtroom with his lawyer and his father. When he takes the stand, he expresses to the jury that Tariq is his friend and that the pair stayed in the dorm together. Brayden bursts out and admits he knows Tariq did not kill either Jabari or Officer Ramirez because he was the one dealing drugs on Stansfield’s campus. Even with Jenny’s attempts to coerce Brayden into putting the drugs on Tariq, Brayden presents proof that he was the one that created Course Correct with a signed document showing he is the President of the app. The case is subsequently dismissed.

Mecca has a conversation with Zeke at his hanger. He lies once again to Zeke about Monet’s alibi for the night of Cari’s suicide. To sweeten the lie, Mecca gifts Zeke a very expensive car and tells Zeke there will be an extra seat on his private jet for Zeke if he decides to flee with his parents.

With Tariq’s newfound freedom, he wants to get Yaz back. He demands the help of Davis who suggests he wait until he collects the money from Ghost’s will. Tariq does not care for Davis suggestion considering he played both sides by taking on Cane as client in secret. Tariq goes so far as to request a refund, considering Brayden got him off. Davis laughs at the thought and reminds Tariq that if he goes to the board with what he knows, he will be implicated again in the murders. Before parting ways, Davis suggests that Tariq could be a decent lawyer.

Jenny and Saxe meet at a bar. Jenny is in tears after finding out Lauren is dead. She blames herself for removing the protective custody. When Saxe asks for leads on the shooter, Jenny informs him that Lauren died by way of a car accident. Jenny suggests suspicion around both the deaths of Cari and Lauren. Saxe also opens up about narrowly being the one to murder James but someone got to him first.

Monet meets with Lorenzo at the bar to reveal the truth about Mecca. They both know he must be killed and Monet expresses she would do anything to protect her family. She asks Lorenzo to get Dru and Diana on board. When Lorenzo asks to be the one to kill Mecca, Monet shuts it down and reminds him the danger that move would put the entire family into. When Lorenzo speaks the plan to Dru and Diana, Dru is on board but Diana puts some doubt into the air. She suggests this could be a set up by Monet.

When Tariq returns to his dorm, Brayden is packing to move out. His father is pulling him out of Stansfield. Tariq breaks the news to Brayden that he is out of the game for good after all of this. Tariq also seeks information on Lauren to which Brayden says she left in the car on her own. Cane stops by and gives Brayden his props for not snitching. Once Brayden leaves, Tariq gives Cane the hard truth on what is at stake if he can not kill his father.

Zeke goes to the police precinct and speaks to Detective Whitman. He requests confirmation that Cari’s death was a suicide. After Whitman says her death was indeed ruled a suicide, Zeke leaves with out giving further information. Tate finally gets Sweeney up out of that seat much to a racist Sweeney’s surprise.

Mecca tells Cane he could have Lorenzo killed during a small shipment delivery he has scheduled the following night. Mecca promises to allow Cane to take over his New York business once the deed is done. Monet walks in and tells Mecca none of the kids will be coming with them when they leave the country.

Tariq meets up with Mr. Warren and gets the confirmation that Yaz’s adoption has been cancelled. He tells Tariq he is very sorry as Saxe approaches with the news that Lauren was killed in a car accident. Saxe later confronts Davis on his role in the deaths of both Cari and Lauren. Davis refuses to take any responsibility for what occurred. Davis asks for an update on the case of Theo Rollins case, his brother.

Tariq feeling guilt around what happened with Lauren, decides maybe Yaz would not be safe with him after all. We finally see Tasha again, living in the mountains under the name “Vanessa Edwards.” Tameka comes to her door with a very special delivery, Yasmine. She will now be able to live with her mother under protective custody. Tasha attempts to get information on Tariq but Tameka refuses to reveal anything. However, she indicates Tariq has surprised her. Tariq is in one of the trucks watching the drop-off. Tariq and Saxe have a conversation which reveals Dante snitched on Ghost also.

Tariq creates two decoy bags for everyone to hold in order to spread Mecca’s men out. Lorenzo has a fake, Dru has a fake and Diana is left with the actual bag. The plan works accordingly. At the shipment drop-off, Lorenzo holds his own against Mecca’s people. Tariq reveals to Cane that they are not actually killing Lorenzo which relieves Cane. Cane seeks out Dru knowing he has one of the fake bags. Dru is busy with Everett. When Everett walks out of the lot, Dru is attacked by one of Lorenzo’s former allies. He is working with Mecca. Cane comes in and thankfully the brothers survive the attack.

Lorenzo arrives home to Diana and asks for updates on Dru and Monet. Lorenzo questions Diana to see if she looked in Mecca’s bag and although she does not want to be labeled a snitch, she admits she did. She found paperwork about bank accounts that were put into everyone’s name. As a result, Lorenzo leaves the house seeking his revenge on Mecca thinking Monet has double crossed him.

Tariq is asked to meet Mecca at his penthouse instead of his hanger. Tariq is allowed up to the penthouse and while on the elevator he hears a gunshot. Monet pulled the trigger before Tariq could even make it up to collect his money from Mecca. Tariq admits he will have to remain in the game longer since he did not get his money.

Lorenzo arrives at the hanger and shoots at a person he assumed was Mecca getting out of an expensive car and heading to the jet. The victim was Zeke.

When everyone gets back home, they gather around the television. Dante’s death is on the news and they report he was killed in his penthouse. Lorenzo knows now that was not Mecca he killed and realizes it was Zeke. We also discover that Dante was Blanca’s C.I. She is presented a photo of who was in the lobby before Dante’s death, Tariq.

Saxe makes the decision to help Jenny seek proper justice for Lauren and Cari. He will be an inside informant for Jenny. Rashad offers his brother a position to his head his security. Tariq and Effie seem to be doing well as an offical couple. Tasha and Yaz have a nice meal together and Yaz gives her mother a letter Tariq wrote, promising to get back to them soon.

The Tejeda’s are back together at the breakfast table. As Monet stares at the empty seat that Zeke would typically fill, the phone begins to ring. Monet heads into the kitchen to answer it. On the other end it’s Detective Whitman informing Monet that Zeke is dead. Monet stares off in shock as she hangs up the phone.

Takeaways:

Zeke joining the Body-bag Committee is something I did not see coming! Wow! I feel for Monet especially once she discovers her husband killed him.

Tariq tried his hardest to free himself this go around but Monet was not going to allow that to happen.

The way these characters can carry huge devastating secrets. Effie being Tariq’s official girl after killing his previous official girl, a mess! Lorenzo sitting there eating arrroz con chuletas in front of Monet knowing he killed her son, MESS!

Yea season three, where you at playa?
