Tonight we had to say goodbye to a very old foe from the ‘Power’ Universe and I am sure many of us can not say that we were sad to see him go.

Davis is hitting the bottle hard tonight and being really open with Saxe. At this point, he still doesn’t know Saxe had been playing both sides but he is about to find out. He gets a call from Monet that Diana has been arrested and since he is inebriated, Davis sends his astute colleague, Saxe to consult the case. Thankfully Tariq gets to Davis quickly to warn him about the RICO case and that Saxe double crossed them. Davis gets down to the precinct with the quickness to intercept Saxe before he gets to Diana but first he witnesses Jenny and Saxe having a side conversation in the hallway. When the two men go to question Diana, Davis intentionally spills coffee on Saxe so he can pass Diana a note, warning her about Saxe and a plan to get her out.

Prior to Davis and Saxe showing up, Jenny and Blanca were pressing Diana like them paninis at Panera, but our favorite snitch stood ten toes down and did not give Tariq or Monet up — although Monet was likely a thought.

The following day, Saxe returns to speak with Diana and this time she has a bit more to say. She gives Saxe some info on Effie and like the stool pigeon he is, he runs to Jenny and Blanca with the intel. Although Blanca is against using the privileged attorney information, Jenny pushes for them to act on it and follow Effie. Saxe cover will officially be blown.

Cane goes to Stansfield to survey the situation and find out what the Feds may have on his sister. He heads straight to Effie who gives him info on Diana likely being caught on the campus roof camera with drugs. Now it’s time for Effie to properly thank Cane for his hefty donation to the United Effie College Fund. The next morning, Tariq stops by while Cane is hidden in the bathroom to offer Effie some work. Although Effie makes it clear she hates but loves Tariq, she accepts the offer.

Monet has a meeting with the Castillo family to let them know that business has to shut down while they figure out how to blow up this RICO case. The Castillo brothers aren’t pleased but Evelyn keeps them in line. Evelyn does ask Dru if he had spoken to Gordo recently, she hasn’t heard from him. Dru assures her that he and Gordo are in a good place but he has not heard from him either. Dru later flips out when he discovers that his old boy toy, Everett, has come out and introduced his boyfriend to the world. Dru pops up at the same restaurant the pair are having lunch at and when Everett comes over to speak, Dru blows up. He goes on a rant about finally finding someone that was right for him but now that person is gone. Unbeknownst to Dru, he is being recorded and the Castilio family eventually see the footage.

Weston Holdings is a hot mess but the secret is finally out. Brayden tells Tariq the company is operating like a Ponzi scheme. Tariq is upset that his trust fund is now gone. He warns RSJ about his new discoveries. RSJ wants to give Lucas up to the FCC but Tariq knows that he and RSJ will never see their money if they blow the whistle now. The answer is simple, blackmail Lucas. Tariq, Brayden and RSJ meet with Lucas to offer up a way for him to repay everyone, including Monet, in exchange for their silence about what he has really been up to.

Davis tells Theo about his problem with Saxe which angers his brother. He tells Davis things would probably work out better for him if he did not assume he was the smartest person in the room.

The FEDs put a tail on Effie and she is followed all the way to the warehouse. The cops apprehend her and search the facility but all they discover is supplies to make coffee. The white powder they test to see if it’s cocaine was just sugar. The FEDs have no choice but to let Effie go. For now the heat is off the RICO case. Tariq, Monet and Cane meet up at the Tejeda home and Effie shows up. She understands why she was set up but is upset she was left in the dark.

Jenny confronts Saxe on his false lead and telling him that he has now been exposed. Saxe expresses that he has a target on his back but Jenny can no longer get protection for him. Saxe heads out to his car and calls Tariq to tell him he knows where Tasha is located and if he dies the information dies with him. When Saxe enters his car, Theo is waiting for him with a gun, instructing him to drive.

Tariq meets with Davis at his office. While the pair try to figure out where Saxe could be, Davis gets a call from his brother’s treatment facility. He discovers the treatments aren’t going well but Davis hasn’t been able to get in touch with Theo. Tariq and Davis put together that Theo must be with Saxe.

Cane and Effie are together at her dorm when there is a knock on her door. It’s Blanca, there to arrest Effie. The cops walk her out to Jenny who is standing in front of a car. She tells Effie that she is under arrest for attempted murder. The car window rolls down and it’s Lauren confirming that Effie was the one that tried to kill her. Effie is shocked to see a very alive Lauren.

Theo takes Saxe to the spot he and Davis liked watching the helicopters take off. Davis and Tariq attempt to talk Theo down from killing Saxe but he says that this is what he wants. Theo shoots Saxe in the chest and turns the gun on himself saying that he and Davis are both finally free.

Takeaways:

Method Man acted that last scene down! I felt his pain and wished Theo had not killed himself in front of his brother.

After all of these years, we finally smoking on that Saxe pack! Man we waited since season two of the OG ‘Power’ series for this to happen.

I really like Harper for Councilman Tate but he gotta act right and listen to his lady.

Diana giving Monet that speech about starting over and going to Spelman was so cute, too bad she forgot who her mama is.

Tariq was right about constantly being on the defense. At no point has Tariq really been “up” in this series. It has been pitfall after pitfall and I wonder is it his karma? As much as I did not care for Ghost by season 6, he was still Tariq’s father, plus all the other people that died at the helm of Tariq’s terrible decisions — his sister included. Maybe he will never be on the “offense” until he is out of the streets completely
