The last two weeks have been agonizing, as we waited for the outcome of Unique’s untimely death in episode 5, and this episode did not disappoint. I typically refer to episodes like ‘Into The Darkness’ as bridges or connectors because they typically set up what we will witness moving forward — let’s break it on down chile!

Pernessa pays a visit to Raq and confronts her about Unique’s disappearance — at gunpoint for some razzle dazzle. Although Raq ultimately soaks her elbow in Pernessa’s eye juices and disarms her, the two women exchange notes on what they think may have happened to Unique. We discover that it has been a week since his disappearance, the police do not give a single damn about Unique and that hella blood was discovered at the tailor shop. Raq suspects Ronnie but Pernessa refuses to believe he would do anything to his little brother — oh baby wake-up.

Ronnie decides to snatch up some of Unique’s jewelry, considering he won’t be wearing any of it where he is. Pernessa confronts Ronnie and is pushed to the floor by him — I guess she finally realized what happened to her man.

Famous lays down a new song in the bar/studio with Lou-Lou, opening up about a body he caught that is haunting him. Well Famous you came to the right place because Lou knows a thing or two about being haunted by some demons. Lou encourages Famous to be honest about what he has done in order to free himself.

That opening up thing does not go well when Famous decides to tell Kanan the truth about how that gun got into his bookbag. Chile, Kanan put him out like a housewife finding out that Ms. Jones was his lover and his secretary.

Butta has their first performance in front of some big wigs with Marvin in attendance. At the conclusion of the performance, Marvin gets a little carried away with his suggestions for the group. He insists that Jukebox should be the lead and his outburst angers his daughter. She pulls him out into the hall and asks him to leave because he may have potentially blew the audition for them. We later discover that Marvin may have been correct about Jukebox having the potential to lead the group. Marvin later apologizes to Juke for the outburst and she apologizes for getting loud with him. You know what I call that — growth!

Ronnie takes that stolen jewelry and his loan from Snaps and Pop right on over to Julianna. Now that Unique has gone to the upper room — she is ready to work with Ronnie but completely in secret. Ronnie later catches up to Kanan who is busy setting the white guy who let him borrow his couriers straight. After Kanan is done threatening him, Ronnie approaches him about a party he is throwing — insisting Kanan would want to be there.

Raq finally visits Lou-Lou’s bar and is far from welcomed. She tries to mend her relationship with her little brother, but when he pushes back by reminding her that she is the one who led him to do some of the very things that are haunting him — Raq blames Lou-Lou for his own decision making. Refusing to take accountability or even acknowledging her role in Lou-Lou’s decision making, he asks his sister to leave the bar. Sadly, the situation triggers Lou into turning back to the bottle. Later in a drunken state, Lou-Lou is visited again by visions of Scrap.

Marvin spends a brief afternoon with Gerald in the park — watching his daughters play. They discuss the upcoming article Gerald wants to write on Jukebox but they are interrupted by a ghost from Marvin’s past — a man that used to work at the club Marvin sold drugs out of with Toni. When he tries to jog Marvin’s memory, he sternly tells the man he does not know who Toni is. Gerald seems confused by the ordeal but Marvin writes it off as a white man confusing him for another Black man.

Kanan confronts his mom on the whole gun situation as the social worker is walking up to the front door. When the social worker comes in, she requests to speak with Kanan alone. After the pair chat, Raq is updated on what Kanan has revealed to her. Thankfully everything was good and the social worker chalked up the yelling she heard as Raq just being a protective mother. Honestly, Kanan is going to say whatever to get up out of Raq’s house.

Kanan, Jukebox and Iesha head to Ronnie’s party. Now I can’t understand for the life of me why Kanan would ask Iesha to come to this party but whatever. When the trio enter the party, Jukebox scans the partygoers and questions what type of event it’s supposed to be. Ronnie pops up and Jukebox questions him partying after the disappearance of his brother. Ronnie tells her that he has just taken off for a little while but she responds by saying that is not what she heard. Snaps and Pop introduce themselves to Kanan and give him props for his new business — which Jukebox questions. After a while, Jukebox tells Iesha it’s time for them to leave since they have group stuff early the next morning. She tries to get Kanan to leave with her but Ronnie pulls him away to speak with Snaps and Pop. She points out all of the major drug dealers that are present and questions if Raq would be okay with him being there. Shutting down the conversation about his mother, Kanan joins Ronnie, Snaps and Pop in the VIP section. Kanan is presented with a business proposition that he accepts — the rise of Kanan begins.

The ending of this episode gagged me so bad ya’ll! The new target in the investigation the FBI is conducting on the mob in South Jamaica sets it’s eyes on Marvin. Chile when Malcolm grabbed that photo of his mugshot, I got so sick! Everything comes back — eventually. We also see a very emotional and intoxicated Lou-Lou confessing to someone — Scrap’s mom! He actually admits to not stopping what happened to Scrap and said he is dead because of him. Lou-Lou did you forget this woman is also a police informant. The plot is thickening chile!

Takeaways:

I have not done my takeaways for a minute but this episode calls for it!

Raq is back in the game! I do not trust Stefano simply because he knows who killed Sal and since the past is coming back to haunt our favs, Marvin may end up taking the fall for the entire situation with the Italians.

Gerald is a journalist, I think he will discover exactly who Toni Deep is a learn some new layers about his friend Marvin.

We are witnessing the rift between Jukebox and Kanan. The blocks are buidling. The answer to the questions, how could he kill Jukebox in the OG series? We are watching close relationships fall apart in real time.

I can not get over Kanan kicking Famous out of his apartment. CHOW! Kanan said I bring home the bacon and I wear the BIG draws round this mf’er.
