When the episode opens up, one of Kanan’s courier boys get apprehended by the cops, Kanan calls Lou-Lou to help bail him out.

Raq appears to really be going legit ya’ll. She is the proud owner of Southside Shopping Plaza. As soon as she signs her paperwork — the police are waiting to introduce themselves. Those cops make an attempt to shake Raq down! The two officers insist on their services being needed to keep her building safe and intact. They even bring up Kanan and the school he goes to but Raq stands strong on not allowing them to intimidate her.

Ol’ Ronnie is out here meeting up with some retired married hustlas — Snaps and Pop. He is seeking a loan from the couple to help front his ambitions to sell drugs again on the Southside. Although hesitant at first, they agree to give Ronnie the money with the promise of a monthly kickback. Hmm I actually like these two, keep in mind I said I liked Ronnie too.

Unique is feeling the pressure from his new partnership with Quan. Product is not moving the way either of them planned for it to and Quan seems to be growing impatient.

Marvin pays a visit to Gerald at his job down at The Village Voice, He apologizes to Marvin for the night before and admits things have been hard for him without therapy and with the loss of Renee — Marvin clearly agrees. Marvin offers to be a safe space for Gerald, offering to get together with him and they can both talk to one another about life and their personal struggles. Marvin also tells Gerald he should write something on Jukebox since she is a budding star.

Malcolm is called in by the FBI head to answer some more questions on Crown and how he was able to run such an intricate drug business as a simple producer. Malcolm continues to feed the lies saying the music industry is very connected to a lot of drug trafficking activity.

There is some trouble in the Mathis home when Unique’s girl questions where he has been. She asks him if he is sleeping with other women and he simply responds by emphasizing how she is being taken care of.

Raq visits Kanan at school and gets a peep at his new friends. Kanan is still being very standoff-ish with his mother. When he walks into the school, she notices the metal detectors at the door. Now most parents would see something like this and say, “Wow, look at the safety precautions here! I know my kid is safe.” However, we are talking about Raquel Thomas and she turns this into a manipulative plot to get Kanan back in her home.

Later that day, Raq waits to see Kanan walk off from the apartment, she storms in, plants a gun in Kanan’s bookbag and pays Famous to keep quiet — chile. Ya’ll know her plan worked considering Famous did not try to stop a thing. Kanan gets caught with the gun and the option he is given — visitation from a social worker at home with his mom. Kanan has to return home full time now. Raq was real confident all of this would go in her favor because she broke things off with Unique just the night before.

Ronnie makes his way to the Bingo spot Dean takes his grandmother. He is adamant about getting drugs from Dean but is quickly turned down. Not only is Dean not dealing with Unique but he is not doing business at all on the Southside. He tells Ronnie that Unique is dealing with some Latin dealers now and angrily tells Ronnie to leave.

Remember the girl group Jukebox auditioned for — she gets selected! We all love this for Jukebox, especially Marvin and Kanan. Kanan meets Jukebox at the pizza shop and offers to take her out to a fancy restaurant to celebrate. At the dinner, the two cousins continue to bond with Kanan giving Jukebox all of her flowers and Jukebox promising to never leave Kanan behind. I think we are witnessing what becomes the underlying rift between Kanan and Jukebox — which breaks my heart.

Marvin visits Lou-Lou who is very apologetic for leaving Jukebox hanging at her audition. He tells his brother that Jukebox made the group and even suggests that Lou Lou may actually know what he is doing when it comes to music. Lou Lou wants to take Marvin to see the bar and tell him about this new opportunity he has with music. When Marvin gets to the bar and hears out Lou Lou and Shirley’s plan for the club, he decides to make an investment.

Chile, Ronnie has caught up with Julianna and Joaquin to ask in on their business. When Julianna learns he is Unique’s brother, she is not interested in working with Ronnie but he insists that he is not like his brother. As Julianna and Joaquin get in the car, Julianna gives Ronnie a bit of a stare down.

Jukebox meets the other girls in the group, Iesha, whom we met at the audition in the bathroom. She was the one that called Juke ‘Polo Girl.” We also meet Krystal who thinks she is the Beyoncé of the group. The group finally has a name too, Butta, which I hate.

Back at the bar, Lou Lou shows Marvin a space in the back that could be used for an actual studio space. When Marvin mentions selling drugs through the bar, Lou Lou makes him promise to keep the drugs out of this business — he only desires to be legit now.

Back at the Mathis estate, Unique confronts Ronnie on his meeting with Dean. When Ronnie tries to deny the meet up, things get very heated between the brothers causing Unique to storm out.

In the last scene of the episode, we see Dean settling his grandma in to watch one of her shows. He takes her hearing aide off her ear to replace the battery. While Dean is in the dining room, just behind the living room his grandmother is seated in, Ronnie comes up from the basement. He grabs a large kitchen knife and attacks Dean — butchering him to death. Since his grandmother can not hear without her hearing aide, she is completely unaware of what has occurred behind her. She continues to laugh at her show while Dean bleeds out on the floor.
