We pick up two days after the death of Liliana. Tommy has her favorite cereal out on the counter, Lucky Charms, as he plots how to avenge her death. He hears Liliana’s voice — asking when will he get back at the people who did this to her. We all know Tommy can be very one track minded when he wants get back, ya’ll remember Tasha St. Patrick right? He was after her for several seasons.

Tommy and Diamond are officially partners in CBI, after Diamond and Jernard agree to part ways for good. We see both brothers giving their respective street gangs a speech about being with them and never associating with the other brother again. Diamond and Jernard both give their crews the greenlight to eliminate anyone from the other crew that crosses into the wrong territory. Diamond and Tommy’s crew remain CBI while Jernard names his crew Treason — now who would want to be part of a street crew named “Treason” chile?

Everyone isn’t backing the decision to separate, Chewy questions why Diamond would work with a random white boy instead of his own brother. Now I personally would have handled Chewy right there but Diamond is really trying to do this without any unnecessary violence. Tommy insists on coming with Diamond to meet their Mexican connect.

The Flynn siblings are getting along well in their shared hatred for their sickly, pasty and racist father — Walter. The pair agree to work together to push Dahlia and build an empire of their own. Vic continues to stress to Claudia that he needs to be in on every single decision which she agrees to.

Who would have thought Kate Egan would embrace being a Mee-Maw the way she has. Taking extra care of D-Mac with fresh, poured from the carton, orange juice and cereal with milk. Tommy even offers his mother some drugs for being so good with her grandson but she rejects it, she appears to be clean now.

Tommy surprises his brother with his own bar. JP still wants to be of help to Tommy with the drug business but it seems like Tommy just wants his brother to stay out of the dangerous portion of the business. While Tommy is showing JP the bar, the cops are outside grabbing prints from Tommy’s car. Now ya’ll know the police are never too far in any of the Power books.

Tommy gives Claudia a very unpleasant surprise by releasing the top secret recipe of Dahlia on the internet, sabotaging all her little street dreams. The incident also cripples her relationship with Vic who assumes Claudia made the recipe public. The release of the recipe seals the fate of Dr. Lauryn who Claudia executes because she no longer has a need for her. Now why so many Black women getting killed on this series — okay I won’t get into that now.

Diamond reluctantly brings Tommy along to meet up with the connect, Miguel. From the beginning the entire Mexican crew are skeptical of the “white boy” and Miguel asks him to go into a back room while he completes his conversation with Diamond. In the back room Tommy meets Miguel’s sister, Mireya, which he appears to have an instant attraction to. Mireya stands on not dealing with anyone that does business with her brother. The following day, Tommy runs into her at a bus stop and finds out she is a nurse that doesn’t know how to drive. Tommy offers to give her a ride to the hospital but Mireya strongly declines.

Jernard is able to flip Chewy to his side which seems to be one of the few wins he has in this episode. The Serbs are angry that the territory that was promised to them still belongs to CBI and Miguel is angry at Jernard because he failed to give him all of the money he is owed. Between Jernard panicking about text messages from Miguel and getting his ass whooped by the Serbs, he finds one ally — a boxing club owner named Shanti. She helps Jernard with his money problem and sleeps with him in the process. She vows her loyalty to him and not Diamond.

Walter’s old ass owes Dublin for all of the men that were killed in his war with the Serbs, Tommy and CBI. Brendan gives him a non-negotiable amount that is due by the end of the month — the price of peace. When Walter meets with his children, he assures them he has made a deal with Dublin that will prevent any further blow back on the family. Both of the siblings are skeptical of the deal.

D-Mac ends up back in the emergency room due to his gunshot wound becoming infected. Thankfully, Mireya is behind the front desk when Tommy demands help for his nephew. She treats D-Mac immediately, likely saving his life. Mireya tells Tommy D-Mac will be fine and ready to leave the hospital after another treatment the following day.

Tommy meets with Diamond after the hospital and finds out that Chewy has flipped on them and joined Treason. Tommy heads out to get revenge even though Diamond is against it.

Tommy finds Chewy and ironically kills him in front of a “Stop The Violence” mural. Tommy is still a hot head deep down inside.

Takeaways:

I would say they have done a good job setting the scene for this season.

Jernard is going to take a lot of L’s this season if this first episode is telling of what’s to come — I welcome it!

Diamond’s parole officer is strict chile. Ya’ll might need to cancel Christmas on Dave Chappelle Daddy!

Going back to Jernard but why does Shanti like him so much? Girl you bailing him out of trouble with your money in exchange for what — a relationship? Girl where are your elders to tell you how foolish and thirsty you look. And for Jernard!?

The cops never rest do they! They are on Tommy’s trail but I can just see it all falling apart, per usual.
