‘Queen Sugar’ Season 6 Finale ‘And You Would Be One of Them’

Hollywood is packing a bag for what appears to be an overnight trip. Both he and Vi appear to stoic during the preparation. Vi tells Hollywood to make sure he returns safe.

Nova shares the info Dominic found about the remains from the farm. The bodies are of farmers that were killed by a white mob and thrown into mass graves. Ralph still plans to move forward with the coop. There are eleven farmers that are in on the bid for the mall land. The family hopes to make the farm a historic landmark. Charley plans to work her connections at the state capital. Dominic later stops by Nova’s place. He took a trip to Baton Rouge and snagged a meeting for Nova to get the landmark approval for the land. Dominic worked magic.

Hollywood plays pool with a couple of guys. He gets information from one of the guys on where Theo is located. Hollywood is out for retribution in the name of the family, especially Ralph Angel.

Charley shares the news with Vi about the possibility of the land becoming a landmark. Charley asks Vi to help lure Landry to the diner to make a final play for the land. Vi agrees.

Isaiah stops by to see Micah and thank him for the food he dropped off to him. Micah gifts him a photograph in hopes Isiah would forgive him for his behavior after his show. Isaiah accepts the apology but asks they have a real talk about why the fight really happened. Micah feels they have a strong connection and that the pair should get to the bottom of what that is.

Ralph tells Darla about the land being a historic landmark. He reflects on almost losing it all. Darla assures him they will get the land back. Later on Darla and Ralph go to speak with one of the farmers who seems reluctant to put his entire settlement into the co-op. Darla reminds him that he will only be good for one harvest and that the plan with the coop will set them up for longevity.

Billie shares with her father that she is interested in someone back at home. She plans to call him and see if their relationship could move beyond friendship. Billie’s talk with her friend Vince does not go well. She explains to Prosper she has never felt this way about a man in a long time. Prosper blames Jimmy Dale for shutting Billie’s heart down. Billie admits she became a runner as a result of her trauma with Jimmy Dale. Prosper encourages his daughter to open her heart again. He promises to be there for her if she returns home.

Hollywood is at the bar drinking and seeking more information on where Theo is. He tells the bartender Theo is his brother and he is trying to locate him. The bartender admits Theo comes into the bar three times a night and Hollywood decides to stay and wait on him.

Micah and Isiah take a walk by the water. Micah tells Isiah about what has happened with the farm and Isiah is happy to hear they may have a chance at keeping the farm. Micah admits to Isiah he has feelings for him but he does not believe he is gay. Isiah tells Micah he doesn’t want anything from Micah beyond being his friend and his brother. He discusses how society does not allow men to have deeper friendships otherwise they are viewed as gay. They tell each other they love each other.

Dominic appears to want something deeper with Nova. He wants to give her everything a woman deserves. He hopes she will allow him to do it. Nova fears being hurt and is tired of explaining herself to people. Dominic assures her God makes no mistakes and he did not make one in creating her. The two share a kiss.

Charley tells some of her doubts about running in the election to Davis. He tells her she deserves some rest. They tell one another how much they miss each other. Davis surprises Charley with a picnic outside of her home. Charley is surprised by the sweet and romantic gesture. After a beautiful conversation with Davis, Charley accepts Davis proposal. She will run for office out of California.

Sam’s daughter, Parker, comes to the diner. Parker tells Vi and Charley unless they are signing over the land now, they have nothing to discuss. Charley presents the paperwork that marks the farm as a historical landmark. Parker refuses to give the land back. She still expects Ralph to sign over the farm. Vi and Charley tell Parker the farmers have formed a co-op and put in a bid for the mall land. Right when Parker threatens Ralph’s freedom, Hollywood walks in with Theo who plans on telling the truth about the robbery. Parker asks that the farmers drop their bid for the land and they will give the farm back to Ralph.

Darla’s water has broken, it’s time for the baby to arrive. Darla and Ralph’s midwife is too far to deliver the baby. The Doula begins the process of walking them through the delivery via phone. Prosper and Billie come in to help. Ralph speaks positive affirmations to Darla which helps to calm her. Darla tells Ralph their daughter is ready to meet them. The scene pans out over the home.

Takeaways:

I wanted to see the baby so bad before this episode concluded but what a beautiful ending.

I’m here for Micah and Isiah’s friendship. Give us more men in deep friendships.

Well I am so sad to hear that season 7 will be the ending of this series. ‘Queen Sugar’ has been a powerhouse on Black love, family and politics. I will miss this show so much.
