‘RAP SH!T’ Season 2 Episode 5 ‘Dead End’
Entertainment Editor Bianca Gregg recaps the Issa Rae produced MAX series that follows rap duo Shawna and Mia through comedic and often difficult journey to Hip-Hop stardom.
Things between Shawna & Mia and Reina Reign have taken an ugly turn which prompts Francois to have a sit down with Shawna and Mia. The ladies call Francois out on not getting them press and overall being unsupportive of their goals. They also want to know what is going on with the promise of an EP being recorded. Francois has lined up a meeting with Pardison Fontaine and plans to introduce the girls to the president of Def Jam at the Billboard party happening that night. Now ya’ll know there is always a catch with Francois and this time he wants the girls to apologize to Reina Reign.
With that lick Chasity hit in last week’s episode, she was able to get herself, Shawna and Mia a really fly room in Los Angeles. Chasity is updated on the meeting with Francois and is upset to hear that he is setting up label meetings behind her back.
Shawna is still making attempts to support Maurice, who is still recording all of their interactions. On this particular FaceTime call, once Shawna mentions Stanley, Maurice quickly hangs up the call. Stanley is in Maurice’s apartment and instructs him to delete that recording. Chile, Shawna so nervous about what may happen to her that she is incorrectly reading the room. Girl use ya third eye!
Mia is busy juggling all these men in her life. Kash sends her a dress to wear to the Billboard party which Courtney will be at with Lord AK. Let’s also remember that Mia invited Lamont to come out to her Los Angeles stop also. She decides to call Lamont in hopes of catching him before he gets on the plane. She gives him several excuses as to why it’s a bad time for him to come out. Lamont gets upset and hangs up on her but Mia really could care less.
Billboard Party time and out girls look so good walking in to the room with the important people. They spot Reina Reign and decide it’s time to hash things out with her. The girls give her a slightly dry apology because honestly they did not owe her one. Reina asks Shawna directly what her problem is with her. Shawna gives it to her straight about how she uses Black stereotypes to advance herself but Reina simply does not possess the range to understand it.
Meanwhile, Chasity and Francois have a one on one about some things. Chasity tells Francois that he has to respect Chasity’s role as the girl’s manager and that no meetings should occur without her being there. Francois laughs in her face suggesting that they do not need her. He tells her to stay in her lane and basically enjoy the ride.
Chasity tries to make some moves at the party by googling people and talking to them directly about Shawna and Mia, however things crash and burn when one of the people notices her photo in Chasity’s phone.
It’s time for the meet up with Tunji, Def Jam’s president, and things completely go off the rails quickly as he listens to the girls pitch themselves. As Chasity asks for his business card, he walks off with Francois, who has a very brief conversation with him. Francois comes back and tells the girls Tunji wants to see them in his office after the completion of the tour, I can’t be the only person that thinks he is playing them. Chasity walks off disappointed by the news and being excluded from the deal.
Kash shows up at the party and hugs up on Mia. Shawna spots Lord AK and heads outside to speak to him. The both of them talk and bond. Lord AK seems to feel like being in the industry just is not the same for him anymore.
Chasity ends up making a potential connection at the party after all.
A few waiters are passing out finger foods at the party, Lord AK and Shawna partake in a small puff like pastry which prompts Lord AK to ask Shawna what she would want her last meal to be. Shawna responds with a giggle and states she does not but asks AK what his would be. He says whatever little golden pastry he just ate. Gat gets on the mic and forces Lord AK into performing at the party, he clearly is not interested.
When Mia dances to Lord AK’s song, Kash tells her she needs to relax since he is a rival artist. She confronts him on posting her picture in his story and when he responds negatively, she walks off. While looking for Shawna, Mia runs into Courtney and Kash spots the both of them heading back into the house.
Shawna and Lord AK head to one of the rooms for some privacy. Shawna asks him what he wants to do and he says just be there with her. The pair start to kiss and engage in four play but AK has some issues getting aroused. He blames it on drugs but states that he just can not do any thing at that moment. He heads outside to the balcony.
Mia and Courtney are still looking around for Shawna at the party but they end up in a bathroom where they kiss and have sex.
Gat come into the room that Lord AK and Shawna are in. searching for him. The two have a not so positive exchange.
As Mia and Courtney are coming out of the bathroom, Kash discovers them and begins to berate Mia. Courtney gets involved and the two men begin to have a shoving match until they hear party goers beginning to scream. Lord AK has set himself on fire. Paramedics arrive to the party to take him to the hospital as Shawna and Mia comfort one another outside.
