‘RAP SH!T’ Season 2 Episode 6 ‘U-Turn’
Entertainment Editor Bianca Gregg recaps the Issa Rae produced MAX series that follows rap duo Shawna and Mia through comedic and often difficult journey to Hip-Hop stardom.
Everyone has retuned back home to Miami since the tour has come to a halt after Lord AK’s suicide attempt. Shawna is staying at Mia’s place and she is being haunted by the incident with AK.
Chasity’s girls are concerned about how she will react to their antics upon her return to Miami. Chasity reprimands Deja because she took some of the girls to a hotel without paying one of the men that runs it — and some of the girls got arrested in the process. Chasity is angry that her business is under the radar. Sidebar, the fact all those girls are taller than Chasity yet she puts the fear of God into them is hilarious! Any way, she instructs the girls to stay off the strip and continue work on Biscayne but she finds out a rival pimp, Bugs, told the girls they are not allowed to pedal on Biscayne anymore. Chasity promises to handle it all.
Mia and Shawna continue to bond while Shawna stays at her place. Shawna opens up about how the situation with Lord AK is still bothering her and even blames herself for what happened. Shawna feels like she could have stopped AK but Mia tries to convince her that none of it was her fault.
We discover that Lamont has a new love interest, the mother of Melissa’s friend. A little close to home so I am sure this will become a tad messy.
When Alesia and Nelly show up to Mia’s place, they get into why the tour has come to an end. Alesia comments on them not being able to tour because of Lord AK’s suicide attempt and references him as ‘Burna Boy,’ which agitates Shawna. The continued jokes prompts Shawna to go to the bathroom where she appears to have a breakdown. As the conversation continues in the living room, Alesia and Nelly get into what went on with Mia and Kash. Mia admits that she was being messy and ultimately Kash was not worth it. When Shawna returns from the bathroom, she quickly grabs her things and tells the girls she needs some fresh air. I can not be the only one that feels for Shawna.
Chasity decides she is going to go on a scaring spree down at the roach motel chile. She put on her ski mask, her grill and grabs her glock — entering varies rooms and scaring off cliental for Bugs. She even stays that everyone needs to tell Bugs to stay off that block.
Not Shawna heading over to Maurice’s place. Granted she is going through something heavy and clearly wanted some TLC from her friend but he has been treating her much less than great lately. She gives him a deep hug and asks if it would be okay for her to stay over. He agrees.
Mia is back in full mom mode for Melissa who is keeping her very busy in her bedroom. Mia admits that she needs a break and asks her Mom if she is still heading out to a happy hour later.
Chasity gets a message from Peaches about tampons and when Chasity asks the girls to come outside, Peaches tells her they had a meeting and need her to come to the room. When Chasity walks in the girls are being held at gun point by Bugs and his crew. They brutally beat up Chasity and Bugs warns if it happens again, he will kill her.
Maurice is beginning to get rid of his things, assuming he will not have a need for them anymore. Shawna tries to be positive by telling him he does not know that yet but Maurice is sure he is going to prison. Shawna tells Maurice that he is a good man after reminiscing on how they first met. I bet Maurice felt bad right in that moment for recording that girl for Stanley!
Lamont heads over to Mia’s to pick up Melissa. Mia picks up on how distant he seems to be especially when he walked right pass her to grab Melissa. She tries to share with Lamont what her plans are but he pretty much ignores her attempts at small talk.
Uncle Calvin helps Chasity nurse her wounds and plans some get back on Bugs. When Chasity asks if he plans to kill Bugs, Uncle Calvin responds that he has to show her how to get respect in the streets — while handing her a gun.
Mia meets up with her mom and opens up about how disappointed she is in being back in Miami. Her mother can’t seem to wrap her mind around why things can not be good enough for her daughter. She even tells her that there is nothing wrong with making the most out of what you have.
Shawna and Maurice have a friendly dinner together. Stanley comes in and is upset to see the both of them together. Stanley questions Maurice’s loyalty to the family and as he is walking out, he reveals Maurice has been recording he and Shawna’s conversations. Shawna is disappointed by the news and leaves — she heads back to Mia’s. Shawna curls up on Mia’s couch and cries — Mia joins in to comfort her and release some of the pain she has been feeling.
Chasity and Uncle Calvin pull up on Bugs. Calvin gets out of the car and heads over to Bugs car. At first he plays it cool but when Bugs gets out of the car he starts to beat him — eventually Calvin shoots and kills him.
