‘RAP SH!T’ Season Two Episode One “Yield”
Entertainment Editor Bianca Gregg recaps the Issa Rae produced MAX series that follows rap duo Shawna and Mia through comedic and often difficult journey to Hip-Hop stardom.
Our girls, Shawna and Mia, are finally headed out on tour, along with Reina Reign. Well they are kind like back up perfomers for Reina Reign, and they are not getting paid or getting their own set — but I am still proud of our girls.
Things between Shawna and Mia seem to still be on shaky ground after Shawna’s antics at the James Harden party. The ladies barely seem to speak, even in work meetings.
Mia is dealing with placing her daughter, Melissa, into a comfortable situation for the tour. When one of her friend’s back out of having her daughter during the second week of the tour, Mia must decide between her mother or daughter’s father to pick up the slack — she picks Lamont. Although Lamont still wants nothing to do with Mia on a physical level, he is willing to do anything for their daughter.
At Mia’s going away party, her mother gets drunk and expresses disappointment in Mia not allowing her to have her grand-daughter while she is on tour.
Shawna pays a visit to her family and reveals to them that she may be in some trouble with the police over fraud. Her mother berates her for being a college dropout and a rapping hotel employee — yikes!
Shawna later visits Maurice and he questions why she never hit him up. She admits she paid a visit to her parents and things did not go well. Maurice asks if she told her parents about the investigation and Shawna lies, assuring him that she has not told anyone about what happened. I need Maurice to know, if things get hot, Shawna will likely choose herself and throw him right up under that tour bus. The pair have sex and after they are done, Maurice gets a text from Stanley to meet him outside. Stanley questions Maurice on Shawna’s loyalty and he assures Stanley that she is solid. Stanley seems to doubt the situation and says if it comes down to either him or Shawna
Chasity seems excited for the tour even though her clients won’t have their own set and they will not be getting paid. According to Francois, it’s the best they will get since Shawna and Mia are still considered local acts–according to him. Shawna seems to trust what Francois is saying, persuading Mia and Chasity to go along with it. My fear is that Francois will ultimately do our girls dirty — his priority is Reina Reign after all.
