‘RAP SH!T’ Season Two Episode Three ‘Rough Road’
Entertainment Editor Bianca Gregg recaps the Issa Rae produced MAX series that follows rap duo Shawna and Mia through comedic and often difficult journey to Hip-Hop stardom.
Mia finally has a chance to lock in her paid rapper boo, Cash. Her friends even offer up some bedroom tips that are guaranteed to snatch a soul.
Meanwhile on the tour bus, Shawna continues to reach out to Maurice to check on his well being. She also gets a notification from her bank that she is broke. To top it all off our good sis gets her period–a period just always has its way of adding to already established misery. Chastity tries to keep a close tab on her girls while she’s on the road. Deja seems to be missing in action after Chastity didn’t allow her to look over the business while she was gone.
Mia arrives at Cash’s mansion. He has a romantic setup outside by the pool. The pair make their way into the bedroom and when Mia tries to put a special trick down on Cash–he flips the script on her. She wakes up at Cash’s place. He heats the pool up for her leisure and orders food for her. Mia insists on playing things cool even after Cash admits he has a date planned for her.
Shawna and Chastity make a stop at a gas station to grab some things. Shawna literally does just that. She wears a hoodie into the store to shoplift. When Chastity realizes, she helps Shawna get out of the store undetected by the store clerk. The tour bus breaks down and since a Lyft would take too long to get them to Oakland, Shawna and Chastity decide to walk.
Maurice and Stanley pull up to a family birthday celebration and we discover Maurice is officially getting charged for fraud. He questions how Stanley is not being charged, blames everything on Maurice trying to protect Shawna. Maurice later heads out to the backyard and overhears Stanley discussing the fraud situation and admitting he can’t trust Maurice and he refuses to let the family go down for his mistake.
Mia goes out to a club with Cash. When one of his friends confuse her for Cash’s ex, she inquires about why they broke up. He admits she was more of a user that did not have her own. He views Mia as the total opposite of her. Later on at the airport, Mia accidentally sends a photo of herself and Cash with the caption “GOT EMMM” to Cash instead of her girlfriends.
Shawna and Chastity have it out about the situation from the previous night with Lord AK’s entourage. Shawna wants Chastity to admit she does not know what she is doing as a manager. While arguing with one another, a white woman comes out welding a gun and threatening them to leave the road. When the ladies challenge her threats, she goes running back into her house in tears. They share a laugh about the situation.
As the walk to Oakland continues, Chastity tells Shawna how she would love to live far away from people once she makes it. She opens up about her mother passing away when she was 11 and how her Uncle took her in–even putting her into the family business. Chastity asks Shawna about her scamming situation and she admits she got into the fraud ring because her parents cut her off. She tells Chastity Maurice officially caught a charge. Chastity encourages her to keep him close and have some information on him in case it’s needed.
When Chastity and Shawna arrive at the motel, Shawna looks at her phone and realizes that Maurice caught a FED charge. Shawna decides to step outside and call Maurice to check in. He keeps it pretty brief on his end and when Shawna tries to apologize to him, he questions what her apology is for. The line of questioning confuses Shawna who genuinely feels bad about the situation Maurice is in. He hangs up on her and we discover that he was recording the phone call.
