Let me start off by saying, this film is unapologetically BLACK and I love that for us.

Juel Taylor’s directorial debut was a complete hit, not a single miss! ‘They Cloned Tyrone’ includes several genres from blaxploitation, sci-fi, comedy and mystery. A unique and fresh film that continues to push that Black art needs to be front and center. Over the last few years, the growing demand for more horror and sci-fi films that feature Black characters has been prominent, largely due to the success of Jordan Peele. Black culture is not new to the genre however, we definitely have our classics with ‘Tales From The Hood’ and the original ‘Candyman.’ Black horror and Sci-fi films are finally getting the respect and backing it has deserved for years.

The film centers the character ‘Fontaine,’ played by John Boyega, who is a drug dealer from an area called ‘The Glen.’ The film opens on a typical day for Fonatine with a not so typical ending, which begins his quest for answers. We meet the quick talking pimp ‘Slick Charles,’ played by Jamie Foxx and one of his prostitutes ‘Yo-Yo,’ played by Teyonah Parris. As strange things begin to happen in this inner city community, the trio link-up to find out the truth. The film visits several popular conspiracy therioes as they relate to our community. Something being in the chicken, grape drank and hair relaxer are just a few the film hilariously touches on.

We can’t forget about the laugh-out-loud moments that were delivered by not only Jamie Foxx but some of the other supporting cast in the film. Comedian David Alan Grier makes an appearance in an extremely hilarious church scene, as the pastor. Another cameo is from J. Alphonse Nicholson who is one of my favorite actors right now with the incredible work he is doing on the Starz original series, P-Valley.

I am absolutely not spoiling this one for ya’ll. The information above is all you are getting from me because I want you to support this one. I loved it and I would re-watch in a heartbeat.

‘They Cloned Tyrone’ earns an A+ from The Lyons Den. A must see, so go on to the Netflix app and watch.
