It doesn’t matter if your rich or poor, educated or uneducated, a man or a women, if any of the issues that surround the upcoming referendum on the 8th knock on your door it will have the same emotional toll on you & your family.

Repealing the 8th is not just about abortion, it’s about one thing, & that is choice.

It’s about the right to choose a home birth, water birth, C-Section birth, VBAC birth, Induced V BAC birth, epidural aided birth, non episiotomy birth, non vacuum birth, induced birth, non induced birth, a non sweep til your going to puke induced birth or any other type of birth you want or more importantly, don’t want.

Repealing the 8th is about you saying to every Obstetrician, Midwife & Fetal Medicine Specialist in Ireland, “hey listen, that’s not what I want”. It’s about you having a voice to say to them, “don’t do that” & for the law to be on your side, not completely on theirs.

It’s about giving freedom of choice for a women or family to decide what’s right for them.

There is no one solution fits all for any situation in life. We should not be allowed make those decisions or restrict choice about something so serious for someone else or for another family.

In particular if you are female this referendum is giving you the opportunity to gain more control over your own life. It’s about you taking the control back from people who don’t & won’t care what happens to you if & when you get a positive pregnancy test. They care about an ideal situation & outcome, but that may not be your life circumstance.

We all want to be the owner of a happy, health pregnancy with a perfect outcome. We have no right as a nation to inflict more pain on people who don’t get that.

We as a nation, we need to stop pretending its still 1980 & all is good as long as we pretend it’s good. We need to stop believing that everything can be fixed with a nice cup of tea & a prayer to God or a trip away.

We need to realise sometimes God is busy or he doesn’t exist, whatever the case maybe & somehow a person ends up been in a crisis pregnancy for whatever reason.

We need to realise we’re causing & will continue to cause real life alternating trauma to a lot of men & women, if we don’t repeal this horrendous legislation.

You will see throughout this article I haven’t listed reasons people may choose a termination. The reason I haven’t done that is because I believe 100%, reasons are irrelevant in this matter. What matters is choice. If you need a termination, you need one & it should not be open to group discussion by the atheist catholic Ireland we now live in.

We cannot & should not legislate on this matter through the use of an inappropriate emotional poster campaign or out of nostalgia surrounding an Ireland that never existed. We have to legislate based on reality & that reality is the number of Irish women who are forced to travel abroad to terminate & what the UN has to say on the violations to those Irish women’s human rights.

We need to learn to leave go of our past, of our judgement & of our fear of change. Let’s leave all of the horrendous things this country has forced its women to do, where it belongs & that is in the past.

Yes, Let’s Change Together.
