Experienced Players Must Lead Young Seminoles Squad

Westside-Macon enters the 2016–17 season with a little uncertainty on both sides of the ball due to losing several key experienced contributors to graduation. As a result, the Seminoles will be forced to throw some young guys into the mix early on this season.

**Senior** Dual-threat quarterback, Savion Knowlton has the ability to beat defenses both passing & running the ball. Last season he burst onto the scene posting big numbers, which gives his name a buzz entering the 2016–17 season.

Even with having to rely on a couple of newcomers on offense & defense, the Seminoles do return a talented trio from a year ago that will help lessen the burden on the youngsters.

Given their leadership, Savion Knowlton (QB), Dieuseul Stcyr (DB), and Tavores Pearson Jr. (DB) are more than capable of leading a seemingly young Noles team on a deep playoff run and a shot at the state championship.

**Senior** safety, Dieuseul Stcyr is the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons running back, Devonta Freeman. The big bodied safety has a nose for the ball and does not shy away from contact. With his big play ability, he is becoming a top priority for several high major programs.

Speaking about the team’s focus during the offseason and expectations going into this season, Head Coach Sheddrick Risper explained, “This offseason we really focused a lot on making sure the younger guys knew the importance of doing their jobs and knowing their assignments. Me and my staff felt that was key for their development. As far as our expectations for the season, they are the same every year — win a state title.”

Rising Junior, Tavores Pearson Jr. has a great feel for the game. His high-IQ on the field has enabled Defensive Coordinator, Clint Kent to entrust him with making in game coverage adjustments from time to time. “Having a player that can think the game mentally as well as play the game at a high level is a great asset to have, it makes my job much easier,” says Kent. Likewise, Pearson also excels (3.9 gpa) in the classroom. Look for him to become a hot commodity for high majors moving forward.
