After finishing the 2014–2015 season with a 6–15 overall record, the FPD Vikings have already surpassed that win total midway through this season with a 10–4 record.

Sophomore guard, Jalen Dawson, is a key component into FPD’s early season success. He is averaging 11ppg, 4rpg, 3apg, and 2spg to start the season. When asked about the difference in his game from last season to this season, Dawson states “I’ve really matured since last season, playing on the AAU showcase circuit during the off season really helped prepare me mentally and physically coming into this season.” Additionally, he cites the overall balance and chemistry of the team as an important factor in the team’s success thus far. “Coach Walton has really challenged us to trust one another this year” Dawson added.

In just his second season, he has already been a First Team All-Region, Bob Gibbons All-Tournament team, and D1 Spects-All Tournament team selection.

Given that Jalen Dawson is the son of Central Georgia Technical College head coach, Reco Dawson, he has an understanding of the game of basketball that most kids do not have as high school sophomores. He spends countless hours breaking down game film with his dad. Furthermore, Dawson adds “my father instilled in me that in order to be a good player, I would have to understand how the game is played. The game is more than just running and jumping, great players know how to think the game.” Watching his maturation over a one year span has FPD fans excited about the future of the program.
