How Basketball Changed Hassan’s Outlook on Life

Kamry Hassan is a senior basketball player at Central-Macon High School. Prior to joining the basketball team, she never envisioned herself going to college for athletics or academics.

Her New Outlook; What Changed Her Mindset? Hassan explained,

“College was never a part of my plans or dreams because I was always told to just finish high school. After high school, I planned on either going directly into the work force or joining the military. Around my Junior season, the idea of attending college only came into the equation when I started to see former teammates earn scholarships then return home on weekend visits and share stories about their great college experiences. Shortly thereafter, my coaches really started encouraging me to consider going to college because they saw the potential in me to be a great student athlete at the next level. College is now my first priority post high school graduation thanks to my coaches, teammates, and God family’s encouragement. I plan to major in criminal justice in hopes of landing a career in the justice system field upon earning my college degree.”

The 6-foot-1 senior is garnering interest from several colleges that are strongly considering offering her an athletic scholarship — basketball. In fact, Hassan has been in continual communication with NAIA Jarvis Christian College, which she is very interested in attending.

“This is the best season yet because I’ve had so much fun — I am just playing stress free” says Hassan when asked about her senior season.
