Unsigned Senior, Elder, An Unlikely Hero For Westside This Season
#5 Ben Elder: Combo Guard
2015–2016 Stats: 10ppg 4rpg 2.5spg 2.3apg
Despite playing in the shadow of highly touted (5 star) prospect Khavon Moore, Ben Elder has played outstanding basketball for Westside this season. The 5'11 senior guard has made his presence felt on both ends of the court this season. He has made timely baskets on offense and gotten key stops on the defensive end at the most opportune times for the Seminoles this season. In fact, over the past three games, Elder has averaged 15ppg, 4apg, and 2.5spg. Moreover, the sharpshooting senior is tied with Moore as the team’s leader in three point field goals shots made. “He’s really started to step up and be the leader that we need him to be in order for us to get where we want to go — he’s a vital piece to our team. The way Ben has been playing lately has really kept us afloat” says Westside Assistant Coach, Monquencio Hardnett.
Elder’s Motivation — In His Own Words:
When asked about his solid play this season, Elder states:
“My mother, Contessea Wilson, really pushes me to be a leader at all times. She always picks me up when I am down — she keeps me confident in myself. Most importantly, I decided to dedicate my senior season to my brothers. One of my brothers passed away and the other one is incarcerated, so I just wanted to do something that would make them proud — in addition to making my mother proud” ~BenQuon Elder
