A perfect coffee drink for the winter holidays

This sweet coffee drink is the perfect way to get your coffee fix during the colder months, especially if it’s dark and gloomy outside. No wonder it was invented in America’s Pacific Northwest.

I only found vague references to the coffee drink called Caffè Gommosa although the ingredients and the way that it’s made show up under different names, or added next to other ingredients.

What is Caffè Gommosa?

Caffè Gommosa gets its name from the texture it forms from the melting marshmallows combining with the coffee. Translated from Italian it means “rubbery coffee”. Although that sounds a bit strange it’s actually smooth and almost creamy.

My Caffè Gommosa recipe

This version has a small variation on the original, a difference that that I go over underneath.

Ingredients:

  • double espresso shot
  • 3 mini marshmallows

Putting everything together

Add the marshmallows to a small cup and add the espresso shots over the marshmallows. Let sit for 15 seconds and enjoy.

How it’s different from the original

The original uses one medium marshmallow and one shot of espresso. The reason I’ve changed it is because I wanted it to be a little bit less sweet and have the marshmallows melt a little bit easier. The smaller marshmallows mean more surface to come into contact with the hot coffee and the more coffee the more it offsets the sweetness and helps it melt.
