As the big rig approached, Scarlet pushed back the hood of her coat and freed the top few buttons of her shirt, smiling into the oncoming headlights. Compression brakes huffed and shuddered the vehicle to a halt beside her. Scooping up the much-patched-together backpack at her feet, she reached for the door, hauling herself into the high cab.
