With every disappearance comes a mystery, until it is forgotten, and then it never was at all.

To disappear can be both a fear and a longing.

For many, the fear of disappearance is the greatest fear of all. The root of loss: the change from the real to ephemeral memory — to a passing to nothing, unbeing. To disappear, to no longer exist, to vanish without a trace, and if something lost cannot be found, cannot even be recalled, was it ever there?

For others, this is a state for which they think they long: to vanish, to perish, to cease to be, to pass into oblivion, their only salvation from the pain of life.

And with every disappearance comes a mystery, until it is forgotten, and then it never was at all.
