I Hate Being Cold, but I Started Cold Plunging to Ease My Chronic Pain

Every day for the past four months, I’ve woken up with physical pain in my body that I cannot find relief from.

I’ve had chronic pelvic pain and knee pain for years and have learned to cope with both. Now, a new set of problems have arisen.

The vertebrae in my lower back are unstable and causing pain. My sciatic nerve is bothering me on both sides of my body, creating the most intense aches and pains I’ve ever felt down my butt, legs, and feet.

My gluteal muscles are aggravated, which is causing more sciatic nerve compression.

There is some kind of hip impingement on my left side that when it gets bad, sends sharp signals to my groin and makes walking and bearing weight difficult.

Both knees are extra upset, and my neck and shoulders now hurt from the stress of being in pain and trying endless treatment modalities that — if I’m lucky — only give me 20 to 40 minutes of relief at a time.

My entire body is fighting inflammation right now, and it’s hard to know where to focus my attention.

Ibuprofen and a handful of supplements have become my breakfast, and I carry a tennis ball…
