Signs from the Other Side
A Magical Maria Moment
When Maria was diagnosed with lung cancer a couple of years ago, I intuitively felt she would not beat it. I was hopeful and supportive but I was also pragmatic and had learned to trust my intuition.
Of course, she showed valiant effort with holistic healing sessions and emotional work and cutting-edge genetic treatments. She improved for a while but passed last month and the young age of 60.
For her celebration of life, we were told to wear white or vivid colors and to bring a plant or seeds to exchange. Maria was a gardener and a nature gal through and through.
What to wear, I pondered. Then I remembered a blouse of mine she loved, very Maria-esque. It is flowy with pretty blues and gold and white with wide sleeves.
This blouse with white pants or a white skirt would be perfect, I thought.
The morning of the service, I took the blouse out of the closet to find it a bit wrinkled. So I washed it, freshening it up, and hung it on a hangar to dry in the sun on the back patio.
When I went outside to check on the blouse, the sleeves were still damp; and before I had set it back down, a hummingbird hovered before me. Now I have lived in this house for over a year and I have never been visited by a hummingbird…yet.
“Maria!” I exclaimed.
And she danced and darted all around before me.
I felt so much joy as she was letting me know that she was happy and well. Also, she loved my choice of apparel for her special day!
This was my magical Maria moment!
Now it seemed ironic that someone who never smoked and lived such a healthy, close-to-the-earth lifestyle would be diagnosed with lung cancer; yet who are we to question one’s life path and soul choices? When faced with a loss, honoring a soul’s journey can help ease the grief.
Also, being open to signs from the beyond that affirm the continuation of consciousness beyond death can lighten the heart. Embrace your magical moments in life — and in death, which is simply another octave in the music of our lives.
