The Joy a New Puppy Can Bring Into Your Life
The beginning of a love story with a Golden boy
Dogs are a huge part of my life. As an animal lover, I’ve always felt the need to have a pet in the home. But, owning a pet always comes with feeling a massive loss when they cross the rainbow bridge. When our beloved rescue of 16 years passed away in May, we grieved heavily for weeks. It was hard to do anything but feel sad.
Bubba was a joy and constant companion and it was so hard to say goodbye. We still grieve but as with grief, time continues to heal and we now look back and appreciate our time and feel lucky that we got to be his parents for 15 years.
While we spoke about getting a new dog a few weeks after he passed, we decided to take our time finding a new companion. We pondered over breeds and while I love our small dogs, we thought it was time to get a big dog.
I know rescuing a dog is what we should do as good citizens. We did that with our dogs. We rescued Bubba from a humane society close to home. Rescuing a dog also can come with a lot of issues that are hard to train your dog out of. Bubba was a nervous bolter because of his past. We don’t really know how he was treated but we knew he endured some trauma and that his previous owners didn’t want him back because he was an escapee.
