The Most Interesting Question I’ve Ever Been Asked on a First Date

It was something I’d pondered before

To be fair, I suppose some might consider the meeting we’d had over coffee a couple weeks before as a “first date.”

That, though, was more of an informal “Hey, let’s talk before our workdays start.”

That coffee meeting turned into more of a date and lasted more than an hour.

It’s what led me to ask for a real, actual date. To make clear my interest was more than just as well-liked friends who do the same work.

So this — this first date was a lunch at a restaurant neither of us had been to but that she’d mentioned more than once wanting to try.

I texted about an hour before to be sure we were still on.

We were!

I confirmed I’d pick her up and the time.

It took about 15 minutes to get from her place to the restaurant. Polite conversation, mostly work-related, on the way.

We were seated and ordered an appetizer.

Conversation picked up — a particularly challenging situation from the morning meeting I’d just had. A bit about a project she was nearly done with.
