Why are we still commuting?

Do you know why most people work from “on site, from 9-to-5”?

Because on 1926, Henry Ford set an eight-hour workday to boost both productivity and profits.

…Fast-forward nearly 100 years, our work day hasn’t changed that much. Yet technology is now good enough to let people work from anywhere.

Also, commute in most metro areas are getting longer. Our cities and transport systems are struggling, it’s unlikely to improve in the future.

Companies are slowing starting to take notice. Some professions, such as legal and accounting, have long been externalized. We’re now seeing most computer-based jobs moving from office based to (partially) remote.

Working remotely doesn’t only help you save precious commuting time or to increase your focus on work. According to a study published on Harvard Business Review, working remotely boosts engagement, especially when “virtual workers feel that they’re part of a team”.
