The Malay Archipelago publishes stories that highlight the dynamics of the natural world in the Indonesian islands.

Indonesia is one of the 12-identified megadiverse countries in the world and home to a haven of plants and animals as well as invaluable habitats such as the mangroves and the peat swamp forests. All play crucial roles in determining global climate, almost all are currently under threat to its sustainability.

A wealth of research has been conducted in Indonesia, both by the Indonesian and foreign scientists, to reveal the knowledge and insights hidden under this treasure trove of abundant tropical biodiversity. Whether to advance the life of mankind or to preserve this great legacy of nature, the research presents an important tool towards understanding the Indonesian natural world. Its result is, therefore, pivotal to both the authorities and the public to enable them to make the informed decision about living in the archipelago.

It is unfortunate that research findings are rarely given the spotlight it deserves. Most are stuck at the digital libraries whilst the media paid little attention to them. The potential and the changes that occur around the archipelago are thus, underreported. With the help of science journalism, The Malay Archipelago aims to fill this void. We team up with journalists based on major islands of the archipelago (that includes Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Sumatra, and hopefully, many more) to produce science stories from the ground. For the advanced analysis, we look towards the scientists researching corresponding biodiversity subjects in the islands. We are of the belief, that this is the only way appropriate to serve the audience with the important stories to match the greatness of the archipelago.
