Experiment #1: Testing Cleanup.pictures with a Simple Picture
As the first test, I will test Cleanup.pictures with a simple picture. Take a look at the below picture. What I want to do is remove the hand from the picture.
I put the picture in the edit mode in cleanup.pictures and rubbed the eraser across the hand. After removing the entire hand from the picture, I got the below result:
It did a pretty impressive job. Just the area where the finger was holding the hanger had some inaccuracies.
Experiment #2: Testing Cleanup.pictures for a Smaller Object Removal
In the above experiment, the hand was a prominent object, making it easy for Cleanup.pictures to detect and remove. Now let’s try to see how well it performs when the object is smaller.
In the picture below, I plan to remove the phone and the cup from the table.
After rubbing the eraser across the phone and the cup, I got the below result:
Well, this time, the results aren’t that accurate. It has efficiently removed the phone, but the cup part has some defects. It is mainly because it is difficult for the tool to project the background of the cup that it can replace once the cup is removed. That’s why we are seeing a blurred background from where the cup is removed.
Experiment #3: Testing Cleanup.pictures for a Complicated Picture
Until now, we have tested Cleanup.pictures with basic pictures. Let’s now evaluate it for a more complicated scenario where its AI technology goes through a real test.
In the below picture, I intend to remove the hands of the person holding the pen. In this experiment, Cleanup.pictures not just have to remove hands but also create a more complicated background.
After removing the hand using the eraser, I got the below result:
As expected, Cleanup.pictures didn’t project the right background to replace with hands.
Final Words about Cleanup.pictures — Good but Not Perfect
From all the above experiments, I have found that Cleanup.pictures are a great tool to quickly remove objects from a plain background, such as a phone on the table, etc. However, when Cleanup.pictures have to recreate a complicated background behind the object, it fails to do the job perfectly.
I recommend you give Cleanup.pictures a try whenever you want to remove a picture, especially if the background is easy to recreate.
