Is Travel Burnout for Real?

I think it is

I am back from a girls trip and took a long break from writing, not because I was suffering from a writer’s block but because I simply didn’t find the time to.

So much happened in those 4 days that it’s difficult to describe what or how I feel since the time I am back.

I am not here to share what all went wrong with my recent Goa trip. I am here to tell you that travel burnout is real. I know because I am facing it right now.

Travel burnout can happen to anyone, I had read. I just didn’t think it would be me.

What caused this burnout is simple: a lot of uncertainties that we had to face during our trip.

For one, we didn’t have a place to stay the day we arrived. It’s a weird feeling — to not know where to head once out of the airport. You might also feel you are homeless in a new city.

Another reason was that instead of being welcomed by warm, fuzzy sunshine, we had to face the horrors of torrential rains. Of course we knew how the weather would be, and we were all prepared for it, but the gloominess of the monsoon engulfed me the way a sinking person is trapped in a whirlpool of emotions.

Wait a minute, there is more.

On the last day of our trip, our flight got delayed by more than 6 hours, and we got to know about it only in the morning. We had an hour only — to adjust our bookings, take a bath, pack, talk to customer care, etc.

Honestly, I did enjoy the trip a lot — but with a lot of pressure to fix everything. I was also responsible for communicating with the host of the apartment since I had done the booking, and yeah, I have always liked taking that additional responsibility.

But not anymore, I guess!

So before I get on to another trip or vacation, I need to de-clutter my mind and think about the good things only — our cosy apartment, chilled beers, and our amazing car rides.

If you have also faced a Travel burnout, do let me know how you dealt with it. :)
